[solved] MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it
I recently purchased an mp3 player on ebay - whixh of course i'm not sure i'll ever do it again. The player say MP4 PLayer on it and looks very much like a glacier player or nexus which makes me think that it is some knock off or something. It didn't come with any drivers, a pc camera driver for some wierd reason , I tried shorting out the chip or capacitor, but that didn't work. So i'm stuck with an mp3 player that i can't put mp3s on
i need to know how i can get my computer to recognize it!!!!! its firmware version is LG MP3 PLAYER QY-066FV0 TFT70023 ACT_V9.1.52 |
gHOSTLYFIGURES , does it actually operate properly now? Or is it dead?

Re: MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it, glacierpl
It still works fine, it just doesn't connect to the computer and same with a laptop i have.
|
gHOSTLYFIGURES , try using another USB cable. Some usb cables are faulty and causes connectivity problems.
Also ensure that you are directly connecting the player to the computer's usb port rather than via a hub. |

Yes, try different USB cable. The possible problem you will have though is that I suspect you will need a firewire USB cable, which most of the Glaciers & lookalikes use, so it might not be as readily available. Does it charge ok via plug charger? Try switching off & on whilst connected to computer. Also try the control panel/system/device manager settings & see if there is any sign of it in there. What chips does it have (look under sticky paper under battery)? |
Re: MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it, glacierpl
It has a hynix memory chip, it also charges fine when connected to computer. I took the usb cable apart at the ends and found out that one of the wires was not connected, so its possible that was the reason it didn't work. I 'll repair the wire and try it out soon. Thanks for the information, and it was a great help!

now theres a new problem, it connects to the computer, but it connects as two drive with 0 bytes of memory! i have know idea why. When connected , the properties says its an unknown file system. The screen on the player goes from a computer with z's to a computer with three dots before it - one dot being orange -
|
gHOSTLYFIGURES , does your player have an SD card slot? If so, the drive with the 0bytes capacity would be for it. The other drive would be the installed memory chip in the player itself.
When you disconnect the player and turn it off, then insert an SD card and plug back into the computer, both drives would now show with their capacities. |
no it doesn't have a sd slot i added an edit to the previous post
|
gHOSTLYFIGURES , just to check, was the wiring connected to the right pin?
If so, try formatting the player first. Right Click on My Computer and select Manage, a new Computer Management window would open. Click on Disk Management, and on the right you should be able to see your player's drive, perhaps as an unformatted drive. Right click on it and select Format, and depending on the capacity, chose FAT for 2GB and below, and FAT32 for above 2GB. Once formatted, see if now the player's drive functions? |
Re: MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it, glacierpl
ok , for some odd reason it works now, which means it may not work again in the future. I will probably need to get another usb cable because thats the most likely reason, its still a lose connection to the player.
I got some information about the memory chip and it said that mine might be a 1gb but i bought it becasue it was a 2gb. The properties says its two, but i know it can be hacked to show that. I guess i'll find out whether or not it is when ghost files start to appear. Thanks again for you help, i reall appreciate it! I almost thought about throwing this one away and getting something diff. but i might stick with it. |
gHOSTLYFIGURES , if this is the case, then i'll suggest that you format your player using MP3 Utilities Disk Tools to remove the hack, guide here http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html
By having an existing hack on the player, you might encounter file storage problems in the near future, and as well as it increases the chance of the player having its firmware corrupted. |
the chip says on it
hynix KOR HY27UT088G2M TPCB 738A M8UJ5297AJ1 I think the first set of #'s the 8G means its a 1 gig if i'm not mistaken. |
gHOSTLYFIGURES , yeap that's it. It's an 8Gigabit (1GigaByte) memory chip. Unless you have 2 of such chips on the board, it has been hacked.

Re: [solved] MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it
i know you said the usb cable is probably fire wire, but mine has a very small end and an end thats a normal usb. The small end is rectangular with the top left & right corners at a slant.
Also I found an Firmware extracter, which i don't know if it'll work, but once i get a new cable that works I will extract the firmware and reformat the player. The only thing is, How do you put the firmware back in the player? |
gHOSTLYFIGURES , that would be a Mini-USB plug, not firewire. It is one of the most common usb cables to be used nowadays. You should be able to get a replacement cable from any computer hardware store fairly easy.
For firmware extraction, you'll probably need S1clone v1.3 here http://www.s1mp3.de/tools.s1clone.html This software would be able to extract and as well flash the firmware back to the player. However, it has just been released and we are not sure if it would work fully for your player. To theme your player, you'll need the new S1res v3.0 here http://www.s1mp3.de/tools.s1res.html |
Re: [solved] MP3/ MP4 player, Windows doesn't recognize it
it has 4 pins and its not like common mp3 cables or calculator cables
|
it s similar to something call a mini - B connection
|
gHOSTLYFIGURES , have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb#Typ...USB_connectors
Which one does your cable look like? Is it the 2nd from the left? Or the 1st? |
its like a mini b type with two tracks on the bottom
the picture with the usb cables doesn't have the one i have. |
i've been searching and can't find one like it yet
|
it has four pins
but the pins are on the top and bottom of the head which makes it eight, but only four wire connect to it. Each wire has two pins one on top and then another on the bottom. |
heres a link to a pic in the gallery of a player that looks like mine. You can't really see the usb , but you can at least see what player i'm talking about.
