Problem loading onto mp4 player
 

I just recently bought myself a 2GB mp4 player.
The place it comes from I believe is SRS.. whatever that is.
It was made in China.

The problem is:
I connect the USB to the port & the phone, but it won't remove itself out of the waiting state. So I can't download anything to it.

I think I did something wrong, because I have songs on it, that I loaded onto it previously, but now I can't.

I tried to do the "Private Space" thing. But I couldn't access it on the player for some reason.

Then I removed the "Private Space" from the mp4 [which erased all the songs I previously had on it].

Then I accidentally formatted it [while there were no songs on it]. I don't know if there's a way to "un-format" it. And I don't know if this is what caused the problem.

And now I can't seem to download anything anymore.

The error keeps telling me: "Can not copy XXXXXXX: The directory or file cannot be created."

Any help with this please?

I formatted it before...
I should format it again?
What if that erases the songs and then I can't get any songs back onto it?

The error you are receiving is a file system error and was caused by your previous format. Thing is - these players use a hacked FAT file system, and when you format it you turn it to the regular FAT file system, which has stricter limitations.

There are two solutions to your problem.

1) Format it in FAT32 and drop the music back in

2) Format it in FAT and create a folder in which you put the music, rather than just throwing every file in the root of the drive. The FAT file system is able to store only a certain number of files in the root directory (can't remember the exact number).

Either of these options should solve your problem. ;)

I actually realised that the actual root directory would probably be able to only hold a certain amount of files.
So I created folders to put the different songs in.

I have the same problem with my player in getting that stupid, "The directory or file cannot be created." message!
GRRRRrrrr. Otherwise I LOVE this thing. I have been able to fool the player a few times and get some AMV files on by doing this. Look for a file that is already on your player. Now rename the file you are trying to transfer onto the player that exact same name including the file extention. Then try to move it to your player. It will ask you if you want to replace the current file. Say yes. Then once it's copied go rename it the orignal file name and violla it's on your player. I have been able to get video file on this way fooling the player that its a directory that already exists. Also sometimes just moving files off and then back on the player that are already there seem to "jump start" the thing to allow you to get more files on again. I know this sounds corny but it has worked for me with varying success.
