I plug earphones the speaker doesn't turn off

i've recently bought a Titan Model 070 2gb MP4 Player (http://www.titanmemory.com/Model_070.html) and it came with a little bug. When I'm playing mp3 and I plug earphones the speaker doesn't turn off! :shock:

I didn't find any option in the Settings menu to disable the speaker, and it's very annoying :?

And it's NOT a hard problem with MY unit, 'cause all units at my local shop had the same issue.

I don't know if a firmware upgrade would solve this, currently it has Wilson 9.1.51 version, I don't know if there is any newer, I found v.9.1.52 in a website but since my Upgrade Tool doesn't show any info about it when I load the .bin file, I don't want to take any risks of damaging the device.

Please help, the fu**ing speaker does not turn off!!!!!!!! :evil:

Normally the design engineer will run the speaker audio through the earphone plug assembly. That way when a earphone/headset is plugged in it will automatically cut the circuit to the speaker. It sounds like a quality control issue with the manufacturer. Bottom line, I think your stuck with a speaker thats always on. Only fix is to desolder/cut the speaker from the circuit card and not have speaker function any longer. These units are inexpensive (compared to real Ipods) for several reasons and lack of good quality control is only one.

i'm not sure if this is the method, since I think it's a bit "advanced" for a cheap player (despite this player is of very good quality, I guess) and this system is the one I have in my PDA. And, on the other hand, in older Titan players the speaker cut off is through the settings menu, and not automatically when you plug the earphones...

anyway, I will open it and take a look... will post later

and what about any newer version of my firmware?

Firmware update = bricked player.

You'd be much better off cutting one of the speaker wires, or running it through a mini-switch if you got the skills and can find a suitable spot on the player.

well, i opened it, and i don't think the phones connector has any switch to cut off the speaker, but, my knowledge of electronics is very basic.

What about installing an older Wilson firmware? could anyone confirm me if any older version has any option to disable external speaker?

i'll cut the red wire (it's always the red one! :lol

one last question: the fact that the speaker it's always ON, does affect in any way in the battery's power consumption?

Yes, the speaker drains the battery faster than earphones would do.
