How-to fix my rockchip usb drivers & check screen size ?

Hello!

I changed this thread a bit as i don't want to create a new one and make too many new threads.

I recently bought an MP4 player on a PC fair here, it works nice apart from the teris game having bogged up navigation and non working usb driver for firmware upgrade mode. I'm just wondering to what rockchip board i have, without opening it (i thought maybe the s1mp3.de tools could give me some useful debug info, but i read that it is impossible for now) and have working usb drivers for firmware upgrade mode.

The usb drivers that came on the mini cd didn't work. I can't open the device yet as its brand new and has a warranty seal on one of the screws.
My info's are:

Brand: MWalker
Type: BL388G

- 2.4/2.2" screen, 2GB build-in, mini sd expansion slot, fake nokia battery
- line-out, line-in, build-in mic, build-in speaker
- music and video playback, fm radio, images and text
- record; build-in mic, line-in or fm radio

FW Version: 01.08.1723 / Date: 08/08/2007
URL: http://www.quantum-optimum.com/mp3/bl338.html

The device itself contains no serials or other numbers apart from the BL-388G printed on the front.

I would like to backup my firmware but was unable to do so with the s1mp3.de extractor (which i know now will not work yet), the usb driver that came with it didn't work, windows shows an unknown usb device when i put the device in firmware upgrade mode. Also both rockchip usb drivers found in the download section here didn't work.

The importer's website has no drivers and firmwares and after emailing with support there it will be impossible for me to get it via them as they claim they don't have it.

The importer claims the manufacturer is called bosko, their site has some firmwares available for newer models, but i can't find mine in their list, maybe the site can be of use to others here. Their site is here, clicking on the thumb of your device will give details and if available download links to the firmware. Don't click download center as it will send you a download.php file (they need to fix their web server/site).

[strike:53baf42441]What do you guys think i got?[/strike:53baf42441] I got a rockchip player!

Also is my screen 2.2 or 2.4" ? When i measure the diagonal it measures up to be exactly 6cm/2.4" see image below, but others with the same looking player say they got 2.2 and the website of the importer also states 2.2" but that site has wrong information about my device anyways, i have no dual jack, i have 1x jack and 1x line-in. Maybe i measure wrongly? I think the video resolution is 320x240, thats what the video converter needs to convert my video's into in order for them to played on the device.

It's a rockchip, that's for sure. And by the way, none of the tools from s1mp3.de will work on this device. Dancemammal from this board is working on a firmware extraction and themeing program for Rockchips and Actions players, there is a version available for download here, but we've had no news from him for about a month.

Re: How-to find my board-id/player type without opening it ?

Thanks a lot for the info Th3_uN1Qu3!

I've edited my original psot above and will post here the error and device id windows shows when the device is in firmware upgrade mode. Maybe someone can shine al ight on it.

The device shows up as "Unknown USB" device in windows with the following info:

VID_071B&PID_3202\5&348A32C4&0&6

Windows complains about not being able to find a "required" section in the .inf file, which i checked with my device id above, but it seems to match up fine, any ideas on how to fix that?

What can i do to benefit others on the forum, since my firmware is not dead and works fine, it plays all of my mp3's (vbr, 320kbit, etc).

I'm now doing a full low level format with the mp3 player tool to make sure i dont have a hacked device, its going slow, 39% written so far. I'm trying to include an image below with the usb error windows gives me when loading one of the rockchip usb drivers. Thanks for the help and info!

Update to my formatting, it seems my drive is not hacked, even tho the player tools gave me 2 popups that no drive was found and i could not enter/change the encryption page, the low level format which took over an hour went ok (see image below) i also moved about 1.9gb of music to the device and copied it back without a hitch. Now lets hope a firmware extractor will be out soon and maybe some handy utils like the ones for s1 players, to get my board info and other info without opening it. The only issues left are the not working of the usb driver and an unplayable game (which more people have i see) i can live with that for now, but i'd like to mod the player when it is possible 8)
