jd65 , is it an original Apple branded Ipod or an ipod clone?

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

It's not Apple. There does not seem to be any name on it. He bought it on ebay. It played music at first and then his mother formatted it and it will not play music now.

jd65 , check for the firmware version currently used.

to check, go to the System/Settings menu, then select the Firmware Version/Info option. What does it say there?

jd65,

Do you know what FORMAT the player was formatted with? Was it FAT, FAT32 or NTFS? How much storage does the player hold?

I know some players are fussy in the file system it needs to be formatted to. Some require FAT and some FAT32 only and this might be the cause of the problem.

When you plug in the player into your computer, right mouse click the drive that appears for the player, choose "Properties" then have a look for "File System" that is displayed. Is it FAT, FAT32 or NTFS?

Success. You have to rip songs first and then syn before they will play on ipod. Thanks everyone for your help. Very happy Granson. Even at my age I am still learning. Wish you all a very Happy Xmas
