Default Mitone Sigmatel player: need software and/or advice

Hello,

I have a player called Mitone MITMP15. It has 2Gb of space, based on a Sigmatel chipset, and has a colour 1.8 inch screen, 2 headphone jacks.
Supposedly it plays SMV, MP3, can display photos, and can even read text.

When I plug it in, it is detected, and seems to work: I can see the external drive, and copy files to it and back. All seems fine.
But when I unplug it, and I turn it on, the boot up process goes fine (I see the word "Mitone", then a short animation of a flower opening, and then I get an error message, telling me that I need to format the external media with the sigmatel formatter.

I have a big problem, then, because the minicd that came with the player is absolutely unreadable.

Here is an image of it (click to see bigger):

The admin in this forum seems to have the same player as well!

So... I need one or more of the following:

- The software that works with my player, if anyone has it.
- Some alternative player/manufacturer that has some sort of support online, because Mitone is absolutely impossible to find.
- Some suggestions on how to open it, so I can find out exactly which chipset it has, and then from there be able to locate some other options.

Thanks!!

Format it under windows, try both FAT and FAT32 file systems, see if it works.

Good luck!

Mmmm... a bit late with the reply

Maybe it would have worked, but I got too eager and I already overwrote the firmware with a different one, and now it's really a dead player. It does work as external drive (or it seems to, I haven't put any important files in it to test), but the screen doesn't work, so it's useless.

Any suggestions for a firmware for it? Thanks!

Are you sure it's Sigmatel? It looks like an Actions player.

I'm pretty sure it's a Sigmatel player, coz if it would've been an Actions one it would've probably been dead for good after a bad flash. :P

Congratulations, you now got a slow flash drive in the shape of a MP4 player.

Now that's optimistic!

No idea about how I could track down some other possible firmwares for this thing?

I have nothing to lose!

There have been loads of discussions on generic Sigmatel-based players, but they're spread out on loads of forums, and some (like the CNET one) are very poorly organized.

It's gonna take a few good hours of googling to get to some firmware files, as unfortunately this site only has a few, and as far as i remember there aren't any for 1.8 inch screens.

I have found some interesting links, it seems the manufacturer could be called:
Shenzhen Midori
and the player itself looks like the MR920A.
