Default computer seems to be draining my mp3/4-help

Hi all,
I've been having problems with my Mp4 player. For a while it would not be recognised by the computer then having left it to charge overnight in charger it finally reached half charge on the battery display so I plugged it into computer via usb and it recognised it this time. I managed to transfer some files (max 10 mins left attched) and then it cut out and battery was completely empty again and not being recognised. Is this normal? I thought being plugged into computer usb would maintain charge rather than sucking it out? Any suggestions? cheers

This happens on certain USB controllers, it happened on my VIA PCI USB 2.0 card. There's not much to do about it unfortunately, it should work on another computer though.

You might try and use an USB hub. (edit: one of those with the external power supply, suited for external harddisks and other draining stuff)
