Default (xintai mp3/mp4 player) format problems or something?

I am new to this so I don't know this firmware stuff etc etc etc...
Anyways, I bought a few MP4/MP3 players from Hong Kong / China and now within two days of use, the 1GB model I purchased wont even turn on, and the 4GB one I bought (when I connect it to the computer, it says there is a Format error or something, and It needs to format.

Now I don't think I can save the 1GB model because it wont turn on it wont connect to the PC...

But the 4GB one, is it possible to format with the MP3 Utilities MP3 Player Disk Tool and get it into a state where I can put the firmware on it so it works again?

The upgrade tool says:

Device Name: XINTAI MP3 Player
Productor: Wilson Co. Ltd.
Version: 9.1.52 - I assume this is a firmware???:?: :?:

If anyone could help me that would be great!
Thanks,

Atiuan.Koko

Atuiuan,

I just bought an 8gb mp4/mp3 player, also from Hong Kong/China on ebay and received it today. I am working on downloading some of my music and videos on it. I noticed the firmware question you have and will update you on what i find out.

so far, it looks as though, yes, you will need to format it before putting any music on it. also, depending on what format your media is in, there will be some converting that needs to happen before it will work on the device.

in regards to hearing about both devices malfunctioning within the first week, that is disheartening to me because it sounds as though we both bought them from the same place. i wonder if the 1gb one of yours was somehow damaged in the shipping process or if wires got loose. you see the one screw holding the case down? have you tried taking the case off to see its internal workings?

will keep in touch. -Ben

Hi igouana,

Can I ask who you bought it from?

Unfortunately, it seems you might have a HACKED PLAYER. This is where the seller has 'hacked' the player by fooling it (and your computer) to show 8GB when in fact it only has 1GB physically installed in the player.

Hi igouana,

Oh, sorry, I misread your post.

Have you tried formatting your player using the MP3 Player Utilities? Have a look at this post here: How To: Removing Memory Hack. It will guid you through the process.

Hopefully you'll be able to get the rest back.

You also try formatting it as FAT as well though it may not wor as it's 8GB.

Let us know of the result.
