Shut up those IPOD Gits!

This is a higher frame rate tutorial for owners of AMV Mp4 players with a 2 inch screen. The tool used is MP3 Player Utilities 4.15.

From experience, I have found that the full screen video size to use for 2 inch players is 208x176.

You know when you show your MP4 to a friend who has an IPOD and he chuckles at the high-speed action bits where the video jitters. Well here is the answer.

The reason for this jitter is the frame rate. It is possible to fix this by editing the AmvTransform.ini file. Please be careful when doing this and follow the step-by-step instructions exactly.

If you mess up the .ini file you will have to re-install the PC program.
Better still make a copy of the file before starting, that way you can easily
recover the ini file.

1. Start the Notepad program. This file can be found by clicking the Start button, select
All Programs, Accessories and select the Notepad program.

2. Select File Open

3 Navigate to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\MP3 Player Utilities 4.15\AMVConverter

4. Click on the AMVTransform.ini file. Notepad will open the file.

5 Find the line that starts with VIDEOSIZE you will see something like
VIDEOSIZE=96X64(0;16;0),128X96(0;16;0) etc

6. Move to the end of this line and you should see:
208X176(0;10;0). Copy this portion of the line. Do NOT enter the text
or it will not work! I have tried this hack to create 320x240 AMV files
and it seems to work, it plays with AMVPlayer. I don't have a 320x240
capable MP4 so I cant test it. If someone tries this for 320x240 please
let me know.

7. Now move the mouse to the position after the closing bracket and
Paste the data from the clipboard. You should now have a line
end that reads ",208X176(0;10;0),208X176(0;10;0)"
that is the same information repeated. On the copied portion, change
the 10 to 15. This number relates to the frame rate.
You can also use 11,12,13,14 as a frame rate if you wish.

From experience, the maximum frame rate is 15. With any frame rate higher than 15, the fast moving video will look great but the audio will now out of sync. It seems that the processor isn’t fast enough for simultaneous high frame rate video and synced audio processing.

Now when you open the AmvTransform utility you will have 2 entries for
208x176 in the "Screen Width and Height" selection box. The second one is the 15 fps option.

There is a trade off in setting a higher than default (10) frame rate and that is file size. For a 1 minute 25 second file the following file sizes result

208x176 10FPS: 6229KB 208x176 12FPS: 7287KB
208x176 14FPS: 8349KB 208x176 15FPS: 8877KB

This method should work for other screen sizes but I haven’t tested them.
Have fun
