Default "format error" when copying files to my mp4 player

I have a Chinese 4 GB Cool Design MP4 Player similar to the one below (but not from ChinaVasion):

http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...01be209d10c0a8

I am having problems copying files and folders to the mp3 player. Most of the time the files are copied over without error, however often the files display a message "format error" when I try to play them. Also many times the folders that I copied are not even shown on the player. After browsing these folders from my computer, I noticed that the newly copied folder contained copies of the the other folders in the root directories as well as jibberish and empty files.

Can someone please help me out with this problem?

Firmware:
BKSD91N12_32
9.1.52

Hi JZA,

Try formatting your player. There are some instructions on how to do this here: How To: Removing Memory Hack.

Try that and let me know of the result.

Default Memory Hack

Thanks for the info. I reformatted the drive using the MP3 Utilities Disk Tool and it did in fact show a much smaller memory capacity than before. The the player now shows 961 MB of free space, as opposed to the 4 GB as advertised. I guess I am the victim of a memory hack. I will contact the seller immediately and demand a refund.

So, you purchased it from Chinavasion?

I have dealt with them a couple of time and there players have all had genuine memory.

They are honest and there supplier must be scamming them, contact them by either a support ticket or via live chat.

Hi JZA,

After the format, are you able to play the files fine without the "format error" message?

Did you buy it from Chinavision directly? I think you sould definately contact the seller about this.

To prove it, you can also open up your player and check the serial number of the memory chip that you see insde. It should tell you what the exact size of the memory chip as well.

I'm not sure where it came from. My gf got it for me as a gift, I think she got it off ebay. I just posted the link to show the physical appearence of the player. I will try to get to the bottom of this.

You will should place negative feedback on the seller stating it was a hacked player.

Also, you should file a claim dispute with PayPal.

It is good to know you didn't buy it from chinavasion as I thought they may have started to sell hacked players lol.
