Default Could a dead battery interfer with the player connecting?

When I plug it in, I get the switch on message. After I do that I get a fully charged message but no connection. If I don't switch it on, I get a charging message with a empty battery/charging image.

Could a dead battery interfer with the player connecting? Please somebody help me out here as I used it for storage last week and I need the files off it ASAP!

[EDIT] It's a loose usb port in the player itself that's causing the problem. I can get the connect screen on the player to show up but windows gives me a message saying unknown device but is not shown in the device manager.

The wall charger doesn't work.

[Edit] The USB connector within the player is loose.

The USB port at this point is beyond loose, it's broken. And the warranty has been up for months so I can't take it back and ask for a new one.

Would getting someone to solder the connection to fix it or am I out of luck?
