Firmware update for 2.4 in Rockchip

I just bought this player
Code:

http://www.tradestead.com/wholesale/mp3-players-mp4-players/1gb-mp4-players/mp3-mp4-wma-player-p-1551.html
It plays AVI so I assume it's a Rockchip. System info shows:
Ver: 00.00.0008
Date 2007-09-20

I would be delighted with it as the video quality is excellent. Unfortunately there are no games. When I enter games mode I get a grey/black screen with a purple bar across the bottom.
I am hoping that a firmware update will resolve this. I've never had to update the firmware before so I'm looking for advice on finding a suitable firmware update for this player.
I'm still waiting to hear back from Tradestead customer service but I'd prefer not to have to post it back and wait for a new or fixed one to be returned to me.

Don't try to "update" the firmware on an unbranded Rockchip player, you will most likely KILL your player.

The firmware versions and dates mean nothing on these players, you would need to exact match the board and display serial numbers, this means opening up your player.

This player may support "Rock" games.
You need to create a folder on your player called "GAME" and copy some Rock .rkp games into it.
There are a few in the download section.

If this doesn't work then I would suggest returning the player if you really need the games.

Re: Firmware update for 2.4 in Rockchip

Thanks for the advice, Knob, you're a lifesaver. I downloaded a pack of 5 sample games and they work perfectly. I was dubious about updating the firmware so I very glad not to have to try it. The player is for my daughter & she really wanted games. Santa had given her a player bought form hailitele before I found this forum. It worked for about 2 weeks!
She wrote to Santa about it but he said his elves are on vacation & will replace it when they get back.

We've been checking the fireplace every day since. Hence my not wanting to post back to Hong Kong again.
