Mp3 player disk tool error
 

I just got a 4gb touch screen player, with a slot for a 2gb SD card. Anyways, when I try to use the MP3 Disk Tool to check for a memory hack and stuff, I get an error that says "Not detected removable disk! Please check the disk connecting, or reboot system!" and it won't let me Partition and Encrypt.

Hi steve.carn,

That means your player is not compatible with the MP3 Player Utilities unfortunately so you won't be able to use it on your player.

Have you tried formatting it normally through WINDOWS instead?

Ahh..that sucks. oh wells. Nope, I haven't tried formatting it through WINDOWS...how do I do that? Is that just Step 4 on the "How to Remove Memory Hack Topic" (http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html)?

Aight, I used the formatting thing that Step 4 said to do...and it looks like mine is 3.84GB
Does that mean its truly 3.84GB? Or do I need to use another method to check?

I too have one of these players, similar only advertised and labelled as 8GB, i recently killed it after recklessly trying to put 5GB of pics, music and films (what was i thinking???!) anyways i have managed to flash some firmware back onto it and it seems OK now but what i want to know now is how much memory does it really have??
It's not compatible with MP3 Disk Tools and when doing a full format (not quick) with Windows it either reports back 7.75GB or just says 'unable to complete format' I'm pretty certain the memory is hacked or defective but i'm after a tool that can check it .. any ideas?

If it's not Actions-based the standard S1 player utilities won't work with it.

I don't think yours is Actions-based. It looks like a Rockchip or Anyka unit.

Yes it's definately a Rockchip, it's the RK2608A with 2 HYNIX 4GB RAM chips, i'm pretty certain that Hynix are a reputable firm as they make RAM for Dell PCs and looking at some threads it would seem that Rockchip based players with hacked memory are something of a rarity as they cannot easily be manipulated to work with hacked memory. So maybe the RAM is faulty rather than hacked. I'll have a look at this swissknife and see where it gets me, thanks to Th3_uN1Qu3!

Well... You say it has two Hynix 4GB chips? They are noted in GigaBITS not GigaBYTES, so 4/8 x2 = 512 x 2 = 1GB. However i find such a setup VERY UNLIKELY, no one would bother to put two 512MB chips just to hack them.

Btw, it's Flash not RAM, RAM is temporary memory while Flash is permanent storage (keeps data after power off).

And it doesn't matter who manufactures the flash chips, the size hack on MPx players is done at the filesystem level not at the hardware level. All they do is flip a few bytes here and there. Still, there's a good chance that your player is NOT hacked but suffering from other problems.

No i was talking BYTES not BITS, nowhere on the chips does it mention either

And i only mentioned the brand name for the benefit of other readers who might never have heard of Hynix.

Anyway, after carrying out a full format using Windows the amount of space came back as 8,302,455,733 BYTES so it would seem that i have got 8GB (that's 8GBYTES not 8GBITS). I then decided to test the memory capacity to it's limit so i copied files to the player until it was full then made a folder on my desktop and copied the files from the player into the folder, not only did each file come back ok but when checking the size of the folder i got 7.73 GB, 8,302,455,733 BYTES.

I have reached the conclusion that there's nothing really wrong with this player, the only 'fault' with it is that the software within the player that formats the memory doesn't do it's job particularly well. At the end of the day i'm pretty pleased because it turned out that i only had to do a full format to get full use of the player's memory so all's well that ends well!!

And yes you are indeed correct, i should have used the term FLASH memory rather than RAM thankyou for correcting me...
