How can i back up version 9.x.x firmware ??

How can i back up version 9.x.x firmware ??

I would like to back it up just incase of any problems with it later on and possibly try to edit the skin but s1fwx wont connect to the player..

Is there any free software that will work to back it up and then allow me to edit it ???
