Does anyone here use FLAC audio format?

Does anyone here use the FLAC audio format?

Can you get as good of a compression as you can with MP3 for the same relative file size?

Has anyone used Winamp to rip CDs to FLAC? I don't seem to get very good file size compression with Winamp. Does anyone have any ideas?

FLAC is a lossless audio format and as such will always produce larger files sizes dur t the fact it leaves nothing out

mp3 and other are lossy formats, they rip out bits to make the file smaller

FLAC is really used by audiophiles to get as near as possible a true copy of the original CD quality

which has no use on a cheap ipod clone, or a cheap computer with no dedicated sound card.

Thanks, yes, the fact that the compression is lossless makes sense that they cannot get the same kind of compression ratios as .mp3. I agree that the sound quality is quite good to my ears, especially on players with the good Wolfson codecs.

Don't get me started on those awful iPod clones....everyone knows how I feel about them ;)
