2.5mm headphone plug - can you pull it apart?

It seems like its glued together or some sort of mould - it doesn't unscrew with mild "encouragement" as many 3.5mm plugs do.

As i've only got this one and dont want to butcher it just yet, anyone else know if they can be pulled apart AND reassembled? :)

Thanks

It depends on the design your earphones. I have two different kinds of 2.5mm earphones and one of them comes apart pretty easy. Actually, my kids pulled it apart for me (I won't be leaving my earphones on the computer desk anymore!).

Any reason why you want to pull yours apart by the way?

Yep, so I can solder decent headphones onto the 2.5mm plug. The ones that came with it are garbage

or just buy an adapter from dealextreme for a few dollars

defeats the point of simplicity. If its not easy to pull apart and reassemble i'll just find a source of 2.5mm connectors. I dont want to cut and join the cable after the connector coz it looks pox

The converters makd511 look fine. I have some myself and they work fine. You just connect one end from the earphones into the small converter and the other end into the earphone jack of your player.

Have a look here to see what I mean --> 3.5mm adapter from eBay.

The other option is to get a better 2.5mm set of earphones....? That would probably save you the work and effort of having to solder anything.

Nevermind. That's not the solution nor do I want it. I'll find a source of 2.5mm plugs.

BTW a 3.5mm male plug to 2.5mm female socket will greatly assist with my collection of useless connectors. If I were remotely interested in an adaptor, I'd need 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female :)

Thanks anyway

find a set of phones that have inline volume control, rip it out, cut the wire on the 2.5mm phones with enought to spare, and cut the phones in the same way and use the vol control to join the 2 bits together

better than trying to split the plug open, and looks quite normal to have inline vol control

just a thought
