Default Does this player support .flv or .asf?

Hi,

I have this type of MP5 player

Click the image to open in full size.

and the firmware is rockchip.

I bought it from ebay and it sent from hongkong.

If anyone have the same type of model, can you tell me if your player does play .flv or .asf movie? Because it said it will support .flv or .asf, when I bought this item. but when I install .flv movie file it said " file error"

Does anyone know how to upgrade the firmware so that it can play .flv or .asf movie?

Thanks in advance.

Please make a backup copy of the firmware you have first and upload it to this site here, just to be on the safe side.

follow these instructions:-

.flv should work on your player, it's works on mine and my player is like yours, but you must make a copy of your working firmware before you try an upgrade.

with rockchip players it is very picky about FLV files

i have only found a couple of sites that will work, try a youTube file and it should work

Flv files made with different programs do not adhere to the full FLV format, the rockchip is expecting proper encoded FLV files

try a youtube

do not update any firmware as yet, before trying this first, also as it is from ebay you can never really trust what the seller states about a player as they copy and paste information without checking, most do not really know much a bout them at all, just enough to sell them as they are big business

so take your seller info with a pinch of salt

also as knob says, make a copy of your firmware and upload it here along with a picture and a link to where you bought it

thanks

Hi,

Thanks to all the senior member, knob and makd511.

Actually I have found the answer myself by doing searching on the web.

The mp5 player that I have... it does support .flv movies. but not all the .flv format, only from certain sites like youtube as mention by makd511.

If you dowload videos from sites like youtube, dailymotion and some chinese sites like tudou, sina, and 56.com., then you can play it on the player.

However, if you download from sites like yahoo and myspace, it doesn't work.

I don't know why, but I guess it related to the screen solution. As I remember, this player can only play the movie about 336*200 resolution.

Thanks and have a nice day.

resolution should not be a problem, with these player the video is scaled down to screen size where needed, but you may be right, it could be potentially different for flv, but on AVI etc i can run 640x480 etc

HI, I have the same player am having the same file playing problems. I discovered that if I take the unplayable file and convert it to a flv file using WM Converter (a free software from Download.com) it will play. Convert it to the flv file even though it is flv file. It will be a bigger file but will play. Enjoy!
