An Actions-based player. There are tons of those around.

hi,
I have a bought an IPOD but its giving me some problems. For one, the radio stations cannot receive my local Stations as am in Kenya. Also, once i stopped playing a song, when i restart my Ipod, ithe song does not start from where i stopped but i have to browse all over again. i also cannot play my songs according to the folders in which i have saved in. its opening all the folders into one folder. it is also playing just .AVI movies. Am just wondering if there is a software i can use to make it possible for me to use the Ipod as per my liking including setting the radio to my local radio stations. Attached is an image of my Ipod. You can also send me mail on kimanijimmy@yahoo.com

What frequency do the radio stations in your country use?

kimani 11th Nov 2008 5:22 am

we use fm stations but in its settings, the ipod has choices only for europe, america and japan. if u follow the link below, there is a photo of a similar ipod as i have

Well, FM really doesn't give enough info. What FM frequency range more specifically? The Japan range isn't going to work for sure, and aren't the ranges in US and Europe the same?

Anyway, it supports 87-108MHz on the Europe setting, don't remember the Japan band. If your radio stations are on the older 65-74MHz FM band, you're out of luck. I don't think you will find a MP3 player to support that freq range.

yes, my IPOD has a 87.0-108mhz and our FM stations are on the same band length. am just wondering if there is a different operating system i can use

Well, it should receive the stations then. Maybe there's something wrong with the tuner chip, i know that on my old Actions player a solder point on the FM board broke and thus the player wouldn't go into radio mode anymore. I fixed the soldering and enjoyed the player for a few more months till the battery eventually went too low to be of any more use.

The FM reception can be improved by taking a piece of insulated wire (one from the ferrite antenna of an old AM radio should work), stripping the insulation on one end and soldering that end at the ground pin of the headphone jack, then cramming as much wire inside of the player as possible. I was able to get flawless FM reception on all stations in town when i did this little mod to my old player.

Sadly there is no other "operating system" you can use on the player besides the one that came with it from the factory.

thanks so much, i really appreciate the time you took to respond. my biggest disappointment is just to learn i can not change the operating system. i really wish there was a way. the ipod cannot even play a mpeg video. it just plays .AVI which are not comon
