Funtwist Cinema 131 (Onda VX757+ clone). firmware etc.

hi there. at first, sorry for my owfull english, i'm from ukraine. the only widespread vx757 clone here is that funtwist. it's firmvare is so ugly... (u can download it here) i try to search some information in the web but google knows nothin about it :( .

there is troubles with unlockin hidden service partition, "rkusb.tag" don't work. t try all filenames like "funtwist.tag"... but it's still hidden. so i decided to update it with other brand firmware

funtwist's freshest firmware is 1.2 and it's almost indentical to onda's v1.3. but i've some doubts about pcb versions. as i get it, there are early (ver. 1) and late (ver. 3). is there some external differences between them and what will happen if i update my player with wrong version?

and maybe you propose other firmware with unlocked user-adjustable equalizer, better interfase etc?

sorry but have you actually updated the players firmware, bacause DO NOT do it

if we have a copy of the firmware from funtwist we can find out the name of the tAG file we need to use to open the hidden plartition

ok, thank you for warnings. i unpacked that firmware (btw, is it really full firmware or some part is not flashable?) and searched all binaries for something like "*.tag". and found nothing. is "secret filename" in "ccpmp.bin"? after what might it be?

I had a look at this firmware.

This player is NOT a Rockchip player, so no tags will open the firmware.

This is an Ingenics JZ4740 player, sorry, but there is no known way to backup the firmware on these players.

Actually that's a very powerful SoC, the same as the one on real Onda.

You could probably dump the firmware by treating it like a real one.

knob the news about dumping is really bad...

i thought it's JZ4732-based device. such as "real" onda.

is the presence of tv-out important for firmware? or they are interdependent ?

oh. confusing situation...

makd511 17th Nov 2008 10:00 pm

sounds like you have a real onda player there and as such maybe able to use the rea onda v757+ firmware, even though it may not say onda on the back

n4cer 18th Nov 2008 8:31 am

i compare tools and firmwares from onda an funtwist - an they are the same. so, if i flash the device vith onda's firmware will it be possible to open hidden partition?

makd511 18th Nov 2008 9:26 am

there is no hidden partition on the ingenics based player but you can customise the firmware as it is really easy, pop over to mp4nation and search for the tool to do the job in the onda forum, the firmare file is called an HXF file and there are tools to rip this apart an reveal all the image for you to replace and thn load back onto the player

n4cer 18th Nov 2008 11:01 am

so easy... that's fine. ok, some of troubles solved. and that's only beginnin' :)
the things really madden me:
-uncustomizable equalizer
-txt-reader without any advanced settings
-no support of id3-lirycs
-uninformative "playing music" screen
-and listing keys (vol up, vol down) are... unlogicall. left scrolls down, right - up
-with such powerfull soc there's no dsp (like stereobase manipulations)
-fm list without channel-names
-font! i think times new roman is not a good choice

themes are just pictures and there's no problems with them. but is there solutions for other problems?

makd511 18th Nov 2008 12:54 pm

the problem is that chinachips that provide the solution firmware for this chip have been really bad in providing updates to the source, this is why onda and others are now not using this chip and are going over to rockchip processor instead and dumping ingenics/chiachip solution

all your complaints are common about these players using this chip

n4cer 18th Nov 2008 1:52 pm

ok... i think topic might be closed :(

knob 18th Nov 2008 2:11 pm

You can still have a play though, :) have a look here:-

Re: Funtwist Cinema 131 (Onda VX757+ clone). firmware etc.

A lot of the code is open-source, and Rockbox project is working on it.

The device can run Linux!
