[HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

Hello!
I've been searching for quite a while now, and can't find a way to know whose firmware or chipset my mp4 uses...
It definetely plays .mtv, but I can't make it work, because when i convert and play it, it just keeps blinkin a blue screen video player, but don't even play nothing. I'm pretty sure it isn't problem with conversion, because I tried many many combinations, with no success...

The info displayed at the firmware version screen is as follows:

FW:03.10.02
CHIP:08

It is a iPod [fake, of course] clone, with a microSD slot in the top, which I've put a 2gb Kingston memory in it...

I hope someone could please help me... I'm desperate..

Thanks!

Open it up and read the part# off the chip.

I tried to do it once, but it's glued to the shell, so I can't dismantle it...
It plays, however, it can't play videos =/

Dunno what's going on?

You want to download chip genius from here:

This will tell you what the chip is at least

Post a picture of the interface and the menus.

Hi Jiizake,

So the only problem is that it doesn't play videos? If that's the case, then it's better to leave your player in tact and try to find out why your player doesn't play videos.

Does it come up with an error message such as "invalid file format" or "no files" messages?

The first thing to do is check for a SAMPLE VIDEO file, did it come with one?

Do you have a URL link to where you bought the player from?

Post a picture of the interface and the menus.

Re.:
I'm not at home now, but I'll post similar mp4 interfaces, which probably will be of same

use as mine, since there is no unique record of any manufacturer...

Here they are:
This is like the one I got, but mine is marked "iPod", which, of course, it is not:

This interface is just like my menu:

Obs.: It have a microSD slot

Hi Jiizake,

Re.:

Yes! It just doesn't plays the videos... but it doesn't show "invalid file format". Instead,

it just don't reads .amv, .wmv, .avi, .mpg and whatever you put in it, but plays (or tries

to do so) .mtv, which I've been testing with no success...
Of course, checking the sample video was one of my first thoughts, BUT I got my mp4 second

hand. Of course it's not very used, my friend who sold used from like 1 or 2 months, so no

sample video =(
As the place where it was bought, I asked my friend, and he got it from a shopping. No

success, though, because it closed... lol

As you can see, I'm in a bad situation... haha

Please, if someone can help me...

Thanks in advance ;D

Re: [HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

It seems to be an older version of Actions player. If you post what Setup -> Firmware Info gives I can confirm whether or not it is.

MTV was the video format before AMV.

Re: [HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

It is already specified above, as:

The info displayed at the firmware version screen is as follows:

FW:03.10.02
CHIP:08
There is no more info in the firmware menu, so...

=(

Any guesses?

Re: [HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

If it starts up with an hourglass it's a _very_ old Actions-based player, 2003 or 2002.

Re: [HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

Well, thanks for the help... but how to explain the microSD slot in it, since they became more popular recently?

And, still, does you know how do I have to convert the videos?

Thanks

Jiizake 12th Jan 2009 9:54 am

oh, but it doesn't starts with a hourglass...
it does show a beach, and a Welcome screen...
when putting in standby mode, it shows Bye-bye and a dog...

please, could someone help me with this?

BTW, ChipGenius accuses this:

Quote:

"Device Name: ++[J:][O:]+USB Mass Storage Device(Audio Player USB Device)(SD/MMC CARD USB Device)

PnP Device ID: VID = 0402 PID = 5661
Serial Number: 00101000101410067513
Revision:

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

Chip Vendor: ALi(??)
Chip Part-Number: M5661

Product Vendor: Audio
Product Model: Audio Player

Tools on Web: (N/A)"

Re: [HELP]How to find firmware or chipset info

Yes, from VID we see it is not Actions device. Also, no hourglass is another sign.

You have ALi M566x. Taiwanese, not very common.
