Default Reading ebooks on mp4 player.. please help

Greetings all this is my first post here....I have discovered my 8GB mp4 player is only 1GB!!! Thanks to this site for helping me out.. at least I am informed now!

Anyway, I was wondering how to make ebooks look nice on the screen of my mp4 player so that the words aren't broken in the middle across lines.. I just can't stand reading them like that!! I've tried this tool: http://www.mympxplayer.org/here-df588.html

But for some reason my mp4 player doesn't show the altered formatting on the screen It just keeps showing it's shitty way which is almost impossible to read. I have literally hundreds of ebooks I would love to read on my player so any help greatly appreciated!! Is there anyway to mod the firmware or something so that it will word wrap automatically? (Hence making the ebooks actually readable)

Oh yeah, here are the specs of the player (which I am currently trying to get a refund for, but hey it's only 20 Australian and kind of fun to mess around with it...)

This is what it looks like: http://www.mympxplayer.org/image-asp631.html

LISONG MP3 PLayer
Wilson Co. Ltd.
Firmware: 9.1.53
Apparently the board ID is: JM_9312_V2 2006-11-15 (according to here: http://wiki.s1mp3.org/S1mp3_device_database)

In fact if anyone has any general info on how I might be able to mod the player a bit would be good.. but I'm sure there's a way to make it recognise word-wrap somehow!!!

Hi PsyBreaker,

I have sent a message to the creator of the "MP4TextFix" tool to see if he can help you. Hopefully he'll answer shortly.

In the meantime, do you have a SAMPLE eBook in your player? If you do, what does that look like in your computer and does it look find on your player? Can you upload it to the site so I can take a look at it?

Hi Binh

Thanks for your quick reply.

Sadly, when I formatted the drive I just let it delete all the crap that it had on the drive, including the sample ebook. I do remember opening it in the mp4 player before I did the format though, and it wasn't word wrapping at all... Had many words broken all over the place

What annoys me though is if you go to the end of an ebook in the player.. for the last page it shows:

<<END>>

Perfectly formatted right in the center of the screen!! Why didn't they just make it format the books well

How do I upload files to the forum? I'll show you an ebook I fixed with the tool, that my player just ignores...

What we need is the tool to mess with version 9xx firmwares.. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for someone to figure out how to make it word wrap.. or even just make the player follow the formatting of a modified text file, rather then screwing it up. This would be a really worthy project for someone with the skills.

Sigh...

Hi, I'm terribly sorry for answering that late, i've been having some trouble and haven't checked my mail in a while.

About your problem with the text, it seems that the player is simply ignoring the EOL characters (eol = end of line). MP4TextFix tekes the words and counts them then after a few inserts 1/2 ascii characters (10 and 13) which correspond to end of line characters on both Windows and Linux. On my player this seemed to work just fine.

With your firmware, a text like this:

Code:
this[CR]
is[CR]
a[CR]
test[CR]
(CR is carriage return or EOL)

is seen like:

Code:
this is a test
I really don't know if there is a fix for this as the problem is from the firmware. Let me know if you find a way to split a small text on more than one line and i'll have it implemented in the program.

Regards.
