Are you sure? You do know there's some amount of risk involved with this... but if you really want to do it then continue reading.
Open it up and get the board ID and CPU, to see if the firmware is available if you do not have the original.
Use s1clone to make a backup of the flash chip. Try writing it back to make sure the backup is OK.
Then download any firmware that does not match your player and flash it to the player. It will die. You will need to use the Dead Player Recovery Guide to get it to accept new firmware.
If you have the exact firmware you can just reflash it, if not then you will need to find a close firmware that will enable the player to function as U disk, then use s1clone to restore the backed-up flash image.
