Hi willyman,

Have you done anything to your player before this problem happened or did it happen all of a sudden?

Also, has it ALWAYS happened or just suddently?

The three easiest things to try is:

1. Another USB port on your computer. Make sure you don't connect it to a USB hub as that probably won't have enough power to power your player as well as the hub.

2. Try another computer and see what happens.

3. Lastly, try a DIFFERENT USB CABLE instead. It has happened many times where the USB cable is faulty and produces this problem.

Try those and let us know of the result.

Ok, I'm trying to get the back cover off and its not coming off very easily and I don't want to force it. It only has one screw on the bottom back left.

I have taken some pics as well, maybe that will help out.

wow, no need to be rude. maybe we don't all know what the chip and cpu look like, i thought i was doing good taking pictures and labeling what i saw.

anyway, i got my player working. i disabled the "Unknown Device" in device manager, then discoed/reconnected my player and windows recognized it as a USB Mass Storage Device, woo! I had to re-enable it, that messed it up again, but as soon as i discoed/reconnected again, it worked great! installed "iTunes Sync" so i can sync my music.

maybe this will work for you too willyman.
