idiot question about the ipod connector

I have just bought one of these nice little cheap and cheerful 3rd generation ipod nano clones from ebay, and the truth is I quite like it. So far it has been okay... but here is my question...

on the base it has the on/off switch, the headphone socket and also what looks very like the nano/ipod connector.... my question is, is this connector just for charging or will it actually connect to the in-car fm transmitters and the like which use an 'official' apple connector (if you know what I mean).

any help gratefully appreciated.

Re: idiot question about the ipod connector

No, it is just a USB.

The clones don't have the same connectors as the real Apple iPods do, so it won't connect unfortunately.

If you wanted an FM Transmitter, your best option is the FM transmitters that connect through the earphone jack in your player. Then you just turn your radio to the same FM fequency channel as your transmitter and you can hear the music from your player.

The USB connection is for connecting to your computer as well as charging at the same time.

Hope that helps.
If you want, you can post a photo of what you are describing so we can be sure.
