Speaker Replacement?

All right everyone i have been thinking of a way to make my MP4 player louder. I have already taken my player apart a few times to put in a new battery and really just to see what makes this thing tick. The audio is just too low for me. I have already bumped the MP3's up to 98 dBs so that they are louder but that still isn't good enough. Yes yes i want MORE Sound. I have already modified it so that i have it on a rope that is around my neck (used a USB flash drive chain and a little drill bit) and i can hear it alot better but i want to see if i can make it louder.

I was wondering if there would be any problem with putting a cell phone speaker into my player? I know that there maybe a size (depth) issue and im fine with that because i will just modify my back of the case but would there be any issue with power or anything like that if i change out the small speaker for one that comes with a slim cell phone?

Thanks

Re: Speaker Replacement?

Should be no problem so long as the speaker impedence is the same.

If the cell phone speaker impedence is LOWER, then the player could be overloaded, but size doesn't matter at all.

Hmmmm. Would there really be a difference between the speaker impedance of an MP4 player speaker and a cell phone speaker? I know we are dealing with ohms but in reality there shouldn't be a major difference right??

Both of them will very likely be 8 ohms so i don't think you should worry about it. All the cellphone speakers designed for music reproduction are 8 ohms.

What you should know is that good sounding cellphone speakers (especially the ones on Nokia phones) are actually in a precisely calculated mini-enclosure and will sound like shit outside it (Nokia 6234 comes to mind). Your best bet is a speaker from a Motorola phone, they are generally good-sounding and fairly loud by themselves.
