Re: RockChip RK27SDK Recovery Guide
hi folks
Whenever I've messed with the firmware on my RK2706 player one of 4 things seem to happen:- 1) Where the "Upgrade" works 100%. only happened to me on about 2 occasions where the player works fully as it should, but the end result as been NO additional features, except on one occasion where I got the a TV option, but of course it's no good 'cos my player doesn't have the hardware for TV out. 2) Where the "Upgrade" seems to be fine, but I can only use the play/pause/shutdown button, and all the other buttons are dead and the player will play music and the display is ok, This has happened to me on about 5 occasions, this is the most interesting scenario for me where hacking could be an option. (if base.rkw would allow) :( 3) The "Upgrade" results in a blue/white screen, this means where the firmware is from an incompatible player, don't seem to be able to play music in this state either and usually wipes the main memory 4) The totally Dead black screen, this seems to occur when you have an incorrect Rock27Boot.bin file, this is loaded in with the updater, and you end up having difficulty getting in the firmware partition and the main memory end up getting wiped. I found this after playing with different Rock27Boot.bin files there are 4 that I am aware of dated 17/01/2008 04/03/2008 29/05/2008 and 24/10/2008, these appear to be the bootloader of the player if you like and seem to vary in size. Recovery in the event of 1) to 3) seems to be straight forward, but in the case of 4) "the black screen" quite difficult to recover the only solution to 4) for me was to ensure I had the correct Rock27Boot.bin and firmware conbination as these seemed to be matched and use this with the recovery tool/updater combination, a hard reset shouldn't be needed and only use as a last resort. I would be interested to hear of any other user's findings and if you agree or disagree with the above. The upshot of all this is in spite of all my efforts loading other firmwares has resulted in NO benefits at all for me yet and the original firmware is the best option me although I have modded mine somewhat. (btw thanks for the guide travis90, it's very well done), there is one point, however, the Rockchip RK27 Upgrade v2.5 doesn't find the player unless it is in Rockusb mode, check this in the safely remove hardware icon) http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...lipboard03.jpg |
Re: RockChip RK27SDK Recovery Guide
here is a tip i wrote re trying to get the player in rcokUSB mode if u can still see the main drive but the player appears dead, its worked for quite a few people now, just another option, especially when trying to get the drivers installed which is the biggest obstacle that many face
downloads firmware (latest) - http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/sflo_new_fw/M29.zip retore kit tools - http://www.mp4nation.net/downloads/f...estore_Kit.rar download, save and unzip ready for use First get the special drivers installed (1) Connect the player to the computer and ensure you can see the main memory of the player (2) in the download of the RKRESTORE kit locate a file called SETUP.RKW copy this to the players main memory (3) Now, keep the player connected and get a PIN, poke this pin into the reset hole of the player Located on the LEFT hand side, the player will restart and if successful windows will open an ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD as shown below in the screen shot Make sure you select the radio button highlighted in the shot below "No not at this time" as we want to locate the drivers manually and not let windows do it Click NEXT http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094355.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (4) On this screen make sure you select "install from a list or specific location" Click NEXT http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094359.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (5) on this screen ensure "Search for best driver in these locations is selected" and that the box called "include this location in search" is ticked (as below) Click BROWSE button http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094410.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (6) from here locate in the RkRestore kit folders a folder named Rk27 Driver, select it and click OK to close the box http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094419.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (7) on this screen click NEXT http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094410.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (8) This screen will now appear, this shows the drivers being installed http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094425.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (9) On completion this screen will appear, you have now installed the drivers (note that your player will now disappear from windows) http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094429.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (10) if you wish open DEVICE MANAGER in windows and check if all is well, you can see the player now installed as "class for rockub27 devices" http://www.mp4.vpunk.co.uk/grabs/2008-12-31_094444.jpg This completes the install of the driver |
