Default VERY bad sound quality

Hello,

I bought this player recently: 16GB MP3 MP4 player/2.8" Touch Screen/Skin Case+Stylus

When I first recieved it, it worked perfectly fine. I uploaded quite a few songs and videos to it and everything seemed to be ok.

However, the next day the audio quality was very bad. All music sounded as though it was slower than usual and any voices (singing or talking) sound as though someone is gargaling underwater. At first, I thought it may be the cheap headphones, so I put in a pair of very good quality headphones and the result was exactly the same.

This problem only seems to happen when headphones are plugged in. When I listen through the internal speaker, it sounds fine.

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas how to fix this. I accidently took off the stickers that cover up the screws (guessing they were there for warranty reasons) and guess my warrenty isn't covered any more.

Seller appears to be genuine and has a great level of good feedback and virtually no bad feedback, though I never got a reply when I tried to contact him (maybe not his fault, he seems to be very busy). He also makes plenty of assurance that he does not use hacked memory.

The seller is fancy_gallery

If anyone has any ideas - or has suffered the same problem - I would be very greatful if you could help me.

Personally I don't trust 16GB players so it may be worth trying to FORMAT your player (make sure you backup what you need from the player firstly though. It would be a good idea to backup all the files anyway).

Just use a format from Windows, copy say a file or two back and see what happens.

If you wiggle the earphone connection into the player, does it improve the sound at all?

I've seen (er, heard) this before Almost certainly the GND conection in the earphone jack is loosen or not soldered well. That makes the sound weird, like listening trough a Mario-bros pipe, or underwater like you say.

And this confirms your problem. You simply hit the jackpot on a not well assembled unit lol... if you can, open it and see the soldering of the earphone jack, maybe the GND pad is broken or bad soldered (it's the one colsest to the board edge).

OR, chances are that your earphone's jack (and the one that came with the player) doesn't insert fully into the player, and does not make good contact at all... also seen this before too.

Hey, sorry for such a late reply. Cheers for the advice guys, will take a look at the inside of the player.

Sndestroy: you don't happen to know anywhere on the internet that will show me what i'm looking for by any chance do you? i.e a picture or something? as i've got a bit of a habit of going a bit gung-ho when trying to repair electronic devices and making things worse (as the electronic graveyard in my cupboard proves)
