Help! My '16GB' player flash memory disappeared !!

I got this touch screen mp4 player from ebay. It's listed as 16GB but after reading here, I looked at the samsung chips. k9LBG08u0m. That's a 4G chip! from herehttps://www.denali.com/ui/ememory/se...&submit=Search .It has 2 of these so I guess it's really a 8G player.

I can live with that but around where I was putting close to 8G of files, the player started acting weird. In one of the folders, it had strange file around 312MB appearing out of nowhere and I can't delete them.

After a while, the player just wouldn't recognize any more files. And then now, my computer, (windows xp) recognizes the player but shows it has zero memory. There is no memory in the player.

When I turn on the player, it boots up fine, except now it has extra 'system init...' before the regular 'MP4 mini player' boot up screen.

The radio works fine, the camera works fine except I can't save images.

Ideas? Some how the flash samsung memory seemed to just disappeared?

Oh and the Rockchip inside says RK2608A. the system info shows version
ver: 00.00.0003
Date: 2008-09-09
FlashMem : 0/ 0MB
CardMem: 0/ 0M

the player looks like one of these

I tried running the MP3 Utilities Disk Tool, from the 'how to remove hacked memory' but it shows 0MB in drive capacity. I am so disappointed because before I was able to play video files, music, everything was working great until I started uploading more.

What if you try FORMATTING your player in Windows instead?
Perhaps there's a corruption or a bad block in one of the memory chips and that's causing your player to go all crazy.

Try that and let me know how you get on.

I tried but Windows does not see anything in that drive. It sees my mp4 player as an empty drive. Like it was an empty slot in memory card readers. :(
I tried rebooting, reseting the player . still the samsung memory seemed to have just disappeared.

I was wondering if I can hard reset? Like maybe use similar to saying a dead player? shorting the leads with tweezers?

I think you need use one of special programms for formatting drives! (of course they may have 'format' function as not as their main)
But first of all you must backup your firmware and files from player!

Hope this advise will help you!

Hi thank you for your reply.

How do I find those format programs?

The player shows there is no memory. Zero MB in flash.
Windows OS shows there is 0MB in the drive.

Just before I put in 7GB of files, everything was playing fine. Movies, music, pictures. But right when I was reaching 7-8GB, player acted weird and (this is probably a hacked player which sold as a 16GB but I found 2 samsung chips (which looks like 4GB each).

HELP!! What can FIND my memory?

*UPDATE* I am using TestDisk from http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk it recognizes some of my memory and is doing a check on every cylinder. it's going very slowly. but it's the only thing that could recognize my memory. hopefully it will finish checking and help me format.

misterhelpme,

So if you right mouse click on the drive in Windows Explorer then choose "Format" does it allow you to format it?

Try this tool as well if you can't format it in Windows. Try the: HP Flash-Disk Formatting Tool - Universal Formatting Tool.

Let me know how you get on with this.

yeah, when i right click windows says there is no disk, insert disk and try again. when I use the mp4 's own explorer, it shows 'flash memory' as before, but when i click on it, it shows nothing. before it would show all my files. somehow the flash memory seemed to just disappeared after i started loading more than 8G of files . Ok let me try that and let you know how it goes. right now I am running testdisk and its' looking through all the sectors. it's taking a long time. still running.

ack! the HP Flash disk formatting tool. When I click on my RockChip USB, it says 'there is no media in specified device'.

misterhelpme,

Just a thought, can you try ANOTHER USB CABLE instead? It may be a faulty USB cable as well that might be causing you problems with formatting it.
