Default Purchased my first fake "Touch" MP3/MP4 Player

Hello,
SonicSam here...just joined a little bit earlier after I saw this website after a little site searching. Looks like you guys know your stuff

Brand New 16GB 2.8" Touch Screen MP3 MP4 FM USB Flash Movie Player

I purchased this a few days ago, it has yet to arrive but I thought I'd better know what I am doing beforehand.

I have a few questions, obviously this site is based on resources for these "players".

I have heard that 16GB could be fake (even though they say they are 16GB). Is this because the seller is scamming us, or a problem with the player, that can be fixed? I am prepared to file a dispute if it isn't like the auction said.

How do I find out my firmware, do I open it up or is there usually an option inside the players settings?

What exactly are advantages to other firmware, are the downloadable firmwares just for backups or do they have some additional purposes (that will possibly make this cheap player better)?

At the moment I am a little light headed so I forget the rest of my questions...but if you guys could suggest more things I should learn/read about that'd be great.

I'll browse around and keep this forum open for when someone replies

Thanks for the (future) help!

Here is apparently the manual (received in email by seller): http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/102270/MP4%20Manual.doc -- I suppose it's to be expected that it makes no sense, haha.

Interesting, thanks for the link.

I'm glad I got a hold of that information before I tried anything, wouldn't want to make it crappier then it probably is, haha .

Awesome, hopefully this thing at least works good enough for my liking...it was 37$ after all.

A friend of mine said these things are really crappy.

Oh well, this will either teach me to buy brand name or stick with the MP3 player in my cellphone

$37 for 16gb, i would be a little suspicious,

make sure you leave no feedback until you have tested the full memory, basically add as many files as you can and see if they all turn up on the player, or if they start to get corrupted etc

Hi SonicSam,

Welcome to the board and the community of MP4 player owners .

A few things.

Firstly, the manual isn't applicable for your player as it's based on the old Nano clone players. This should is a touch screen one.

Secondly, I just bought one as well. It's only a 4GB version though. Going to post a review shortly on it once I get my video camera connecting to my PC again. These are neat little players to play around with. It's no way as good as a real iPod/iPhone but it's pretty good for the price you're paying.

Thirdly, I agree with makd511. $37 for 16GB is very dodgy, so I would keep from placing feedback until you get it and confirm the storage on the player.

Fourth, don't try to upgrade the firmware on your player if it's working fine. You only need to look at the [Dead Players] section to see what I mean.

Lastly, if there's any questions you have, you are more than welcome to ask and post them here.

Hey makd511 and admin .

Will do, I will test it all out and add as many files as I can, I am prepared to message him and start a PayPal claim if everything is not as it should be.

@admin: I'll check out your review whenever I get the chance

I do agree that $37 was a little cheap, but I can't say I was not expecting some wierd situation to happen with a "fake" thing.

I should be expecting it within the next week or two, I already have 14gb of movies and mp3s ready to transfer to it. Feedback has not been given yet either .

I won't upgrade the firmware if it works fine (thanks for the info!)

Thanks for the help

Who knows, maybe I'll be lucky and it is what the auction says it is, haha

-Sam

what format are your movies in, as this player requires dead specific settings, or have you already sorted the setting out that are required

Well I do have a copy of Full Metal Jacket ready.

MP4, h264/AAC

Res: 480x272.

Probably is wrong, but if you do have any specifics to what type I'd need, that'd be great ! I have tons of movies ready to convert, just not exactly sure to what...haha

yep, totally wrong
these player are very specific

use vidrop in the downloads section, its has presdets for a palyer called vx858 of which this is clone

basically
320x240
avi using xvid only
20fps possibly more with experimentation
MP2 audio

all these are important for video to work on this player

Awesome thanks for that, little question though.

Does it have to be 320x240...because that is 4:3...Fullscreen.

Most of my movies are Widescreen, how would I go around to doing that, i'd be fine with actually adding in black bars, but I'm not sure how .
