Mp3 player working funny. Should I do a firmware upgrade?

Hi All. I just joined and I'm hoping I can get a little help.
Last year I bought 2 units of a 3rd gen Nano clone. They were supposed to be 4 GB each but as it turns out one of them is actually 2GB.
Well the 2 GB worked (and still does) but has two lines going across the LCD vertically.
The other unit will not play any songs. There is a message which says format error! but they are in MP3 format.

I thought that maybe I should do a firmware upgrade, but this finding the correct firmware seems to be pretty difficult. I even have a CD that came with the units and has a firmware file on it, but when I try using that it tells me that the Firmware's protocol is different from the one on the firmware.
This is what I see when I go to the firmware version:BO-25002
AK1025_LKD_V32
2007-11-10
9.1.52
2005-01-09

Anyone know what to do with this unit? Any suggestions or FW files for this unit you can recommend?

Thanks in advance

LCD lines is hardware issue. The ITO bonding is defective. This cannot be fixed without replacing LCM.

The second one, format the drive.

so what do you do when you wipe the whole thing out
i mean really dead mine only work as a jumpdrive
it don't even lite up no more

first it would only play one song over and over
when there was about 2000 songs on it
then i plug it in and replaced the music on it
when i plugged it from my pc the screen turned red then black
