What format are E books supposed to be saved in?

Hi there
I have recently bought a 3" Widescreen 16:9 Touch Screen 8GB MP3/MP4 Video Photo Player, similar to the pictures shown in the most recent posts -and for the money I am very pleased with it - working well - however I am having trouble with e books - does anyone which format they need to be saved as for this system
