[solved] computer it says the drive is not formatted

HI
I am not sure if any one can help. I have a MP3 player that has been formatted. It is a clone with (i think) Samsung software. ACT2091_S72_SZG 9.0.43 2006/4/29. When I connect to a computer it says the drive is not formatted and do I want to format now. If I say yes it shows a box that says it will format to 943mb, but it is supposed to be 4g. If someone has the full firmware file that would be great.

Cheers

Re: Firmware required

Open up the player, find part# of the NAND flash to confirm its true capaciy.

Hi Macca,

You may have a HACKED PLAYER. This is where they seller has hacked it to show more memory (4GB) than that is currently installed on your player (1GB).

So you formatting it doesn't help resolve the problem?
The other thing I can suggest is:

1. Another USB cable in case the USB cable is faulty.

2. Try following the instructions on this page here: How To: Removing Memory Hack. See if that happens.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Binh

I followed the procedure and ended up with a 1g player. At least now it is working properly. It is now even showing a brighter display which went very dull before. I don't know what caused that or what fixed it but it is now all good.

You get what you pay for, hey!!!!

Thanks for the help

Cheers

Hey Macca,

Glad to hear it's working ok now.

Where and who did you buy it from? If you bought it from eBay and paid by PayPal, you should be able to file a dispute with the seller and get a partial refund for the hacked player. At least get some sort of refund as it's hacked and a falsified seller.

Thanks for all suggestions. As mentioned I now have a 1g player instead of 4g but as I only paid a small amount for it I am still happy. Yes I did purchase this from Ebay and everyone should be aware of the shonky dealers out there. I bought this player a long time ago and have since purchase a one from a local retailer that is a true 4g player which I just gave to my son. So that is why I was playing around with this one. I am about to buy another "real" one for myself.

cheers

How much did you pay for 1GB?

Hi Lolita
I am not sure but I think it was only about $70, that was 3 yrs ago.

Cheers
