Default A Couple Of MP5 Problems.

Hey,
I just found this site through google, I must say I'm amazed that there is a complete community for people buying nobrand MPX players xD
Well I got an MP5 player from a second hand shop a couple of months ago (no receipt), it says that it's 4gb but I have no way to find out if that is the case because it won't connect to any computers I've tried it on, I have done the different cable thing but it always comes up with the same 'Unrecognized USB Device' and 'USB Device Malfunctioned' unless I plug it into a Mac in which case it doesn't appear AT ALL.
I've looked into device manager and it tells me that 'No Drivers Are Installed For This Device' and there is no option to update or anything.
According to the box there should have been a CD with my player, no such luck.
Any ideas on what I can do?
I'm currently using a 2GB SD Card but taking my card reader with me everywhere is a pain in the arse.

Player Info:
Company: Unknown
Product Name: RK27SDK
Major Version ID: 2.2
Hardware ID: 080722
Local Memory Size: 0.022G(Used)
3.879G(Total)
Card Memory Size: 1.009G(Used)
1.907G(Total)

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Cheers!

Hi Masamune12003,

Changing the USB cable is usually the easiest and quickest solution. But it seems that doesn't solve the problem for you.

If you plug in your SD card, does it recognise the memory and show up in Windows? If it recognises the SD card memory while plugged into your player, then that tells me its a fault with the internal memory. However, if you are still getting "USB Device Malfunctioned" message with the external SD card plugged in, then most likely it's the USB pins on your player that's faulty.

Has your player ever been detected by Windows before?

Also, what operating system do you have? If it's Windows 98 or ME then you have to install drivers for it as well btw.

Thanks for the response!
Plugging in my MP5 player with the SD card inserted does not seem to make any difference unfortunately.
It's never been recognised by windows before, or not properly at least, I was told to alter the way my computer saw the device when I first got it and it didn't work, I can't remember the exact method but it involved deleting things in device manager I believe, I plugged it in and was greeted with a New Hardware sort of message (insert temporary glee) but it still didn't see the flash drive (deflate).
I'm currently using Mac OS X 10.2.8, I have occaisional access to a Windows XP machine and a Windows Vista Laptop.
How do I go about getting my usb pins fixed?
P.S: It still charges through USB, if that's any help.

I wouldn't bother getting the USB pins fixed, they're really cheap on eBay or from a local electronics store. I would say try another USB cable. If that fails, you may have a fault with your player unfortunately.
