Default Rockchip RK27 (I think). Half of memory partition missing?

Hey I was wondering if I could get somebodys advice on this MP4 player I bought. I received it today and its originally 16GB but now cut down to 8GB, and installed the programs that came with the disk etc.

I was sync-ing it through Windows Media Player and it suddenly stopped and disconnected. I checked the memory itself, said some folders were registering in the excess of 74GB and they had chinese text on the folder names.

So being myself and through previous use with flash drives, I formatted the player. Everything got wiped that is visible on E: and F: drives (two appear, kinda weird), however it is still registering that 8GB is occupied.

I've looked about on the site and seen multiple solutions but I'm unsure as to what might be wrong. Would it be a memory hack or a firmware problem? Or something else?

Thanks in advance 8) Sorry for the uber long post lol.
