Memory Hack & possible firmware issue.

Ok guys, not my first time here & probly won't be my last if I continue to buy cheap MP3 players from China.

First off these were purchased on eBay...Suppose to be 3rd Gen iPod Nano clones...seller sent me 4th gen Mp3..No big deal. They were sold as 8GB, so I figure they should be at least 2GB..The final prices were cheap & the 2GB was taken into consideration..I would never pay more then $15USD for anything advertised 8GB....The real 8GB players are priced at $40USd or higher...& even then it's not 100% guaranteed..

On with the show..

The first thing I did with this player was fire it up and see what the menu was like..not the best, but I've seen worse. Next I transferred about 500 songs to the player...They all loaded on there, but when I go to the Menu or root menu for the Songs on the MP3 there is roughly 100 songs available that work..not good at all right..I'm thinking this thing is 1GB at best if I'm lucky..

Next step..I formatted the MP3 with windows & proceeded to use the MP3 Disk Tool to partition and encrypt the memory. On opening the Drive capacity states 4072.32MB / when Partition/Encrypt is open is says 8170MB..

I set the Format to Low & went to Partition/encrypt and slid the bar all the way to the right..clicked on start..went a bit & 2 drives appeared..F: & J:
I checked F: and it had something like 17.52MB...I checked J: and it had 3.96GB or so...fair enought..I might have a 4GB afterall..Clicked OK & Completed the first P/E ...then I slid the bar all the way to the left and did the same process again...When finished I checked my Drives: in Windows and drive F: had 3.96 GB The MP3 Disk Tool on opening still said 4072.32MB & the partition/Encrypt still showed 8170MB...is it normal to see that after the Format/partition/Encrypt processes are completed?

I don't think so...

So I go to the Drive F: and right click choose properties and select Format. When the format window opens Windows still thinks it's 7.96GB. Shouldn't windows read this has 3.96GB now? the same memory capacity I got when I checked F: after I did the P/E???

If you think your confused..How do you think I feel?? LOL

Any ideas? help etc..would be greatly appreciated.

You have 2GB.

I *strongly* recommend that you extract the firmware with s1res and keep it for backup.

It seems that your version of MP3 Player Utility may not detect the disk size correctly for the newer players. Try using version 10.00.

Also, after reformatting you should physically disconnect the device from the computer and replug it into preferably another USB port, to allow proper redetection of the partition sizes.

Thanks for your reply. No matter which USB port I plug this thing into it always pops up as drive F: any ideas why??

Windows is still reading it as 7.96GB and inside the MP3 players memory info it's says 0% of 0.0mb this thing is really hacked...

I've tried the s1res tool before & all it does is create a dump.bin didn't clone the firmware..or at least when I tried to do a firmware upgrade using the dump.bin it never worked..

gonna give 10.00 V a try....needs netframework3.0 installed before it will work.. I did notice that the 10.00 version only had 4 things in the folder. Media manager, upgrade tool, uninstall & video converter. Where is the disk tool? inside the media manager?

Then try using a different version of the disk utility. I know there are some v5.xx to consider.

How big is the dump.bin? That is the dumped firmware --- you can and should upload it to this site.

Hi Lolita, what would I do without you!

I created a dump bin from the player, it was around 6.01MB

The funny thing is inside the MP3 menu it states I have AK2025 9.5.54 firmware...on the S1fwx tool when I plug it in it tells me I have 9.0.52 firmware on the player..I never did any upgrades, so it should read 9.5.54..

They must have these hacked inside and out..LOL

I've tried everything within my skill sets..which isn't very high..LOL

I put the online mode to normal only..& still ended up with 00 m of memory. Drive J: is where the useable memory is too, but with normal only selected Drive J: isn't available.

Right now it operates from Drive F: and it's in FAT32 under the properties for Drive F: windows is telling me there is 3.97 GB of memory..the MP3 player is telling me there is 0 ..

Any ideas or suggestions?

where do I get 10.00 version ? I tried to google it but with no results.

No disk tool with 10.00 version.. only upgrade tool.

I need to format both partitions on the MP3 player either into FAT or FAT32..currently both partitions are in opposite formats..I think that's thats why I can't access all my memory..

The how to remove memory hack guide didn't work..& it seems the newer chinese players are immune to it....No matter what Windows still thinks I have an 8GB player..the player is tell me I have 17.2 m of memory..If I complete the memory hack guide windows still tells me I have 8GB & the MP3 player says I have 0

Can someone explain this to me please??Surely I'm not the first person to encounter these problems.
