I recently bought this mp4 player from ebay (but without the camera option)

I know it wasn't 16g before I bought it, but the price was right. I formatted it before i used it and found 8 gb, better than I hoped. However, I can't get the player to recognize the correct partition. I can move files to it and it plays fine, but it displays disk full if I try to use the record function. When I look at the properties from windows, even when it's empty, it shows just under 16gb with half of it used. I know this is from the memory hack. Is there any way to get the player to report the correct size? I tried the memory hack removal trick, but the mp3 player disk manager doesn't allow me to move the slider at all to fix the partition. Windows won't let me do anything with the partition either. I've read on here that rockchips are true to their stated capacity, but this one obviously is not. I used chip genius to verify the chip, and it reported the rockchip usb rk260x. Thanks for your help.

Open it up and read the part # of the flash chip.

Small problem. The numbers off the flash chip don't start with K9. It is a samsung chip, but is a K4 (according to samsung, classified as sdram)

If I'm reading it right, it's either K4S161622D-TC80 OR its K4S1G1622D-TC80

the K4S1616 would give it a 16m density X16, I'll have to assume that means 256 megs, definitely not right as I put a movie on it that's over 700 megs. the K4S1g16 would give it the 16 gigs it was advertised as. The problem with that is after I formatted the disk, it only shows just under 8 gigs usable, and the other 8 gigs are constantly full according to windows.

...that's not the flash. Look at the other chips.

for some reason, my last post didn't make it in. Anyrate, the only other chip besides the samsung and the rockchip is one that says DYNET. I'm going to have to assume this is the flash chip then. Any ideas? Is there a decoder for DYNET chips or maybe a way to manipulate this chip to show the correct capacity?

Dynet is low-grade Hynix. Part numbers should be almost identical to Hynix ones.

Ok, according to the list, this dynet chip is a low level hynix. According to list, this is indeed suppose to be a 64g chip. It is listed as a X8 organization, does that mean that only 1/8th of the memory is usable in this player, or that 7/8ths of it is bad? It was advertised as a 16g player, so do you have any ideas on what is up with this flash chip? Thanks for all your help so far by the way.

At any rate, I would appreciate it if anyone knows how to get this player to show the correct size. From what I've read, this older rockchip is harder to work with and not possible to extract the firmware from. It's no big deal if I can't use the record function, but it would be nice to get the hack removed if possible. Thanks.

figured it meant 64 gigaBIT lol. Same question however, windows shows 16gigabytes, with half used when player is completely empty, so is there a way for it to show the real capacity? Keeping in mind as I posted earlier, the disk utilities format tool doesn't work on this player, it never allows you to slide the partition anywhere. Yes you can.

Use the Hewlett Packard USB Disk Storage Format Tool V2.0.6

This software will detect the player and you can do a low level format so it will show the true capacity.

I have bought a lot of these hacked players and have been able to fix them all (I resell them at flea markets) except for this new 16gb 4th gen ipod imitation I have now. I believe it is really a 4gb but danged if I can find the right software for it.
