Default RockChip 26 - error: Cannot copy or find the specified file

Hi,

Wish I had known about this resource sooner.

I have a RockChip 16 GB MP3 player, that will not upload WMA files after working fine for several months. It has over 7GB of music already, and plays fine. However recently every time I attempt to load music an error message reads:

>> Cannot copy (file name). Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path & file name. << Then it either freezes or powers down.

This happens using either my desktop or laptop with XP & Vista respectively, & also with any of 3 of my back-up drives.

The only thing that might have changed, is that I tried to download some video apps a few months ago, but nothing ever worked. Actually today, Norton identified one of those zipped video apps as malicious on both computers. Not sure why now all of a sudden, other than I’ve been actively trying to transfer music files.

I read the caveat about _NOT doing firmware upgrades with RockChip 26 series processors_, unless the seller backs it up with an exchange policy. I would be clueless about how to do it anyway, & I don’t know what operating system as all it couphs up is 2008/09/09 version 00.00.0000.

I DID try using several different USB cables. However, I have no problem moving files from the MP3 player back to my computer, just not the other way around.

At least I have my old UXcell Star Platinum II one-GB player, and another 8 GB RockChip player, both working. I had hoped to use the 16 GB this one primarily for video and pics, but oh well ..it still has 7GB of music.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks, Tom

are you absolutely positive it is a 16gb player? Connect it to your computer, right click the flash drive and choose properties. Read how much is available and how much is used. If you've formatted this drive already and it was a hacked player, then even when empty it will read half used. I came across this same problem before I formatted the drive on my "16gb" player. It's actually only just under 8, and after formatting it, it always reads the first 8 or so gb full because of the hack.

Thanks for your post. Pretty certain about the 16GB ..that's how it was marketed & stamped, although it's not a guarantee. I had already checked properties several times, and it always reads about half full with up to approx 8 GB still free, which would account for the LARGE amount of music that I already have on there, about the same as my 8GB player, which is full.

I hear what you are saying tho, as I've read about the problem of hacked memory on other posts, but it doesn't seem to fit this situation. OTOH maybe I picked something up trying to download those video shareware apps (?) My Norton keeps warning me about a Trojan.Dropper on the website suddenly.

I haven't heard from the seller, but although willing, they seem to know less than we do. If what you say is true, then I would like to load half my music on one player & half on the other, but now I'm concerned, that if I take anything off the 16GB player, it'll never work again.

Guess I'll have to read some more posts, and wait for the seller to respond ..not holding my breath :-/

PS Admin: Sorry for initially posting on the wrong forum subject ..r e a l l y appreciate the resource and your patience.

You've checked the stamps and marks, but have you formatted the drive yet? My latest player has a 16gb sticker and marking, but is only an 8gb hack. It didn't show up as such until I formatted the player. Once formatted, I found that half the drive read full all the time. If you haven't formatted yet, then the hacked 8gb side of the flash that doesn't exist, will still read empty, even though the flash is in fact full. Move the files on it back to your computer (it makes it easier to put back on if you keep them together) then use windows to format the flash drive. After formatting, check the properties of the drive before you put the files back on it. If it's hacked it will either show up with the correct capacity, or more likely, show the same (16gb) capacity with half full at all times. Write back and let me know what you find.

Hello Koala121,

I finally got some time and the nerve to reformat my RockChip, chip #RK2608, using NTFS (suggested by another member.) Up till now I had been content to use it with the music, that resided on it for the time being, anxious not to do more harm than good.

But I can now report though that the MP3 flash memory size is a little less than 8GB, NOT the falsely claimed 16GB, which was stamped on the back case. So my MP3 WAS hacked! Actually I reformatted once more using Fat32 tonight, so that files finally read properly.

Only problem now is that the earphone jack seems to be screwy, in terms of a tinny sound, where the vocals sound like they’re off a mile away, but the instrumentation is still present. Guess I’ve got to take it apart now and check the jack contacts. It plays fine on it’s own speaker or through a pc using a USB connection. Can’t seem to win with this one. Maybe I can still at least use it as a photo album.

BTW I reported the seller to eBay yesterday regarding the hack, but of course the listing is expired, and it's been about ten months. So the offender is probably selling under a new alias, or maybe he was selling these things unwittingly all along till someone complained. Belated thanks for your advice.

Regards,
Tom
