ipod nano 3rd Gen styled fake
I bought a "8GB Slim 1.8"LCD MP3/MP4 Radio FM Player+Free Ship&Gift"
on ebay and cant find a firmware replacement for it. 9.5.54 QS_AK2025 2008/04/23 I used the MP3 Player Disk Tool on it but it keeps insisting it's 3827.22MB on the format tab and 7924MB on the partition and encrypt tab. I tried to fix it but now am getting Disk errors. There doesn't appear to be a Firmware replacement anywhere and the disk that came with it has no firmware file anywhere. Does anyone have one or can they explain how to at least get this to show its true memory? Before i did anything to it, it was fine untill more than 2 gigs of stuff was put on it and then it was having duplicate files and folders that cant be deleted short of formatting it. Thanks |
What's on the disc? A newer version of MP3 Player Utilities? Older versions might not be able to work with these new AK20xx players.
Have you tried using s1res v4.1 to extract the existing firmware? The only way to determine the true capacity is to open it up and read the part# of the NAND flash. |
The disk has all software for converting vid files and utilities for formatting the flash memory but it wont recognize the player. has drivers for xibang but no firmware image anywhere on it. All the software is for windows 98 so it tells you right away its all useless. The little manual mentions about getting firmware updates online but there is no reference anywhere in the stuff that was sent about who made it or where your supposed to download it. oh yes, was also some video player completely in chinese that looks like media player for win 98 and my antivirus software found a trojan in one of the vid converter files. Is obvious all reference to the manufacturer has been removed so nobody can look them up and get the replacement firmware for that model.

I opened it up and this was inside:
Samsung 905 ========================= Family: 16Gb-based [51nm] 4KB/page Density: 16Gb mono Part#: K9GAG08U0M-PCB0 Package Type: TSOP1 Org: x8 Vol(V): 3.3 MOQ: Tray -xxxx0xx: 960 T/R -xxxoTxx: 1000 Processor: AK2025 980028A |
The memory is 2GB.
Repartition it with a single 2GB partition and it will work. |
I have the same thing - let me know if the repartition works....
|
I already tried that all I am getting is disk errors now.
|
reformatting it is not working. always says there is 4mb of something on it and when the hidden files and folders are visible i can see a bunch that are probably labeled in chinese. i believe its the hack and it may be hardcoded to the memory
|
that stinks
|
Reformat it with the player tool so that it's showing the original (wrong) size. Then resize the partition down to the smaller size.
|
I got it working again yesterday by adjusting the main partition to just below 2 gig so it would be FAT16 not FAT32. I found a youtube video with a player running the same operating system.
YouTube - iPod nano vs. iPod nano CHINA In case its running a firmware from an older unit that may be compatible with it. Just so you know, I have tried all the fixes found online, on the old site and on this site. I have used MP3 Disk Tool to adjust the partition all the way so the encrypted section was largest and formatted and brought it so the main partition was biggest again but i cant seem to get the hack off. In the Format tab it always claims to be 4 Gig and on the encrypted and partition tab it still claims its 8Gig. I have tried dumping the firmware but it just claims unknown firmware and refuses to do it. |
All these Actions-based players have used much the same UI and OS components, with some minor changes, ever since the first ATJ208x with video capabilities back in 2006. They've only revised the hardware design slightly --- but apparently enough to break firmware extraction in the latest AK202x-based players.
|
Well based on past experience I believe the "hack" is in the firmware. Not being able to access them when they are off is the key problem. I have seen the files on the drives and they can't be removed unless a way can be found to remove the firmware. What we need is a totally new Firmware for them that will replace everything. I personally don't believe that this firmware originates from the manufacturer, they don't advertise them as being as big as the ebay sellers are. I have been emailing the various manufacturers and asking for firmware to fix the problems with their players but have not heard back from them yet. Most of them sell theirs with firmware that more closely represents the ipod but without the scroll wheel. I think that is intentional because if it can't compete with the ipod then Apple could care less since immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I just want the memory to show properly so when i add files it won't screw the whole thing up if i accidentally go over.

Don't know if it helps but the board had this on it:
QS20K19 V0.3_C Key SH - BL1165WA 09/05/04 |
If that date is on the board, you have a _very_ new player, it's only slightly more than 1 month old.
|
The date is on the white frame around the LCD screen
|
What happens if you try running s1res v4.1 to extract the firmware?
|
I used s1fwx_v30 and it just says unknown firmware then won't extract it.
|
Operationally speaking, other than the memory hack this would be a very nice player. It plays music loud and clear, plays video clear with good audio as for the games etc.. who cares.

s1fwx does not support even the slightly older v9.x players (ATJ209x/AK102x), so forget about using it on an AK202x device. It was originally developed for the now 5-year-old Series 8 (ATJ208x) players. |
i tried it...keeps timing out
|
Timing out? Is it the "semphore timeout period has expired" error? That's a problem with your USB ports. Try setting the ports to 1.1 mode or use an older computer with USB 1.1 ports.

I have this player:
1.8" 2GB MP3 MP4 Player FM Radio Voice Black US #MP4001 - eBay, iPod MP3 Players, Electronics. (end time 30-May-09 16:48:50 AEST) The firmware version on player says: 9.5.54 qs_ak2025 2008/04/23 the chip seems to be AK2025 too But the same problem here. It's working OK but I want to change some graphics, and I am unable to drag it's firmware from it. Tried s1res 4.1, it detects the player in v9 mode. But when I try to get firmware from it, the player displays: "F/W upgrade" for a moment and then turns off. s1res then tells me about a "semaphore". Tried to change USB to 1.1 in windows — but the same problem. Wrote a letter to s1res developer, maybe he would say something about it... |
I've done some more research on the AK2025 and it seems like they've moved the flash controller registers again (not surprising, since they did the same thing between ATJ208x and 209x). If that's the only thing they changed, then getting s1res etc. to work would not involve much work. However, I'm more concerned about them changing the FTL and other critical parts.
|
That's great!
How can I help for further research? |
Dump your BROM as explained here:
http://mympx.org/forum/mods-themes/4...-9-5-54-a.html Although some other users are probably going to do it as well, it'd be good to get a few separate BROMs to see if there are any differences between the AK202x themselves. |
It is the same — the device displays "F/W upgrade" for a second and turns off.
and the program says: Quote:

I've tried to install a libusb driver (s1mp3.inf) from here: https://s1mp3.svn.sourceforge.net/sv...on/libusb/bin/
The driver installed normally, but with this driver, there is no new drive on the system. So s1giveio14 doesn't find a device. BUT, testlibusb-win.exe that came with this driver, shows me this: Quote:
|
s1giveio 1.4 doesn't use libusb --- the version I posted in the other thread uses native Win32 USB/SCSI commands. It'll work if your player is detected as a U disk. Otherwise, if it's in ADFU mode I have a different version for that (which does require libusb).
We believed to have determined the cause of this issue. The commands to enter ADFU mode, transfer, and execute are the same, but they changed the USB controller ports so the uploaded giveio stub can't communicate with the host. We are working on resolving this issue and hope to have a fix soon. |
Ok, will wait for it to try.
|
I have one of these too, let me know if you figure it out.
And, if one more person tells me to try USB 1.1 ports, I think i'll find the nearest USB 1.1 port and shove it up their nose. ;) |
Qs_ak2025 9.5.54
I have one of these cheap players. I didn't need anything exotic and I knew it wasn't an IPOD, just want to play mp3's nothing more. It always acted funny and would act like it had a lot less memory and I formatted the drive a few times that didn't solve anything but didn't hurt anything either. But initially it at least played a couple of mp3's and I will take that much which is why I bought it, to download a Radio program I listen to and then play it not at the computer. Now it downloads a file fine and displays just like it should the full time, plays for 10 seconds and stops. Is this a firmware problem? If so is there a way of overwriting the firmware to nothing special just the firmware that came with it?
Thanks for your help, Barry |

That contains a fix for something Bulldurham had explained in his first few posts....I just had to repartition and reformat my mp4 player to make it work correctly. If you need help, I remember EXACTLY what I did, and I can tell you step for step, even though I believe it's well explained in the link above. Because I didn't explain myself about Bulldurham's post, let me say that this regards removing the memory hack and formatting your mp4 player to its true size. Mine reads 1906mb of free space, and it was supposed to be an 8gb! It works beautifully now, but I'm negotiating a refund with my seller, whose ebay id is yf-tech. I hope this can help someone, and I hope I placed it in the appropriate spot! Herm P.S. One of the three chipods we ordered stopped working entirely. It won't power on, it won't charge, the computer doesn't detect it whether or not the power switch is on. I don't know what to do about it, as I can't seem to get the damn thing apart! I'll try to post a picture of the players we ordered...not too sure how to do that just yet. H |
Orange mp4 player like my wife's
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e6...y/nano-000.jpg
This is EXACTLY what my wife's player looks like. Mine is green, my sister's was blue. My sister's gave out on us. It's the one that won't power up at all. Herm |
