You are the third one to post here with the exact same problems with that model of player. It is not really 8GB. Try extracting the firmware with s1res v4.1.

Hi Scar,

The symptoms you mentioned indicate that you have a HACKED player. This is where the player has been hacked to show more memory than that is physically installed installed in the player. By putting the hack on, it makes your computer show up as having a lot more storage, but when you try to copy or use that fake/hacked part of the memory you get errors.

Follow the instructions in this post here and hopefully that will remove the memory hack and also get rid of those errors as well --> How To: Removing Memory Hack.

Let us know of the result.

Idid everything you said, when i splited the memory in two i had one in 4GB and the other in 17MB.when i combined them i got one of 4GB.the pc properties say it 4GB but then i went in the players memory info, the memory is 0MB and 0% instead of 4GB.
And now whene i try to enter somthing i get a Disk Error .
Wtf,did i do wrong i even did a format but its always in FAT32 and in 8GB instead of 4GB.Please help.

Binh, these new AK202x have a slightly different firmware structure and the existing player utilities don't seem to work on them. There's been an AK2025 firmware, supposedly compatible with these new ones, which has been posted, but it's encrypted and they changed the encryption algorithm so that the older product tools etc. won't work with it.

Open it up and read the part# of the NAND flash. I'm guessing it's a K9GAG08U0M or similar 2GB chip like the other AK202x with fake memory here. The recommended procedure is to create a (slightly less than, to accommodate the firmware) 2GB partition on the device and use that.

Use the disk tool to format so that it's back to the original (wrong) size. Then resize the partition down to the correct size using something like gparted.

Scar,

Did your player come with any CD's or disks? If so, can you look through those and let us know what programs are on there? I would be interested to know if there is a newer version of the MP3 Player Utilities that will work with these players for formatting?

sqeeek 25th Jul 2009 7:47 pm

I have one of these, DO NOT reformat it with anything other than the tool that comes with it, you'll screw it up.
These have 1gb of space, I know this because I took it apart and googled the number on the chip.
I ended up spending 2 hours trying to get the thing to stop saying 'disk error'. I set the slider in encryption/splitting or whatever (that stupid format utility) to 7146, which leaves you 1024mb of space, which seems to be as big as it will let me go. Then I set it to only let the 'normal' partition show up, so it just shows up as a 1gb mp3 player now, which is exactly what it is.

Oh, by the way, if anyone knows how to extract the firmware for this player, let me know. s1res 4.1 won't do it for me.

Please help

Had the same problem, with corrupted files and decided the format the player. The strange thing is MP3 Player Disk Tool (ver 4.18) says on the Format tab:
Capacity 3826.22 MB
Total sectors: 7836097

but on the Partition and Encrypt tab
Disk total capacity 7924MB

Now after the format only get 'Disk Error!' message :(

Windows format says
Capacity 7.73 GB
but is the same problem 'Disk Error!'

SQEEEK, please, can you explain what you mean with 'set it to only let the 'normal' partition show up'? How do you do that?

I went from having a problematic mp3 player to have a piece of metal :( Don't want to dismantle the player, I tried but seems hard and don't want to end with the pieces of my hands if it can be solved by software.

What can I do to fix the problem? Please

Firmware is:
2008/09/05
9.5.54
QS_AK2025
2008/04/23
