Default Is it possible to edit firmware on this player?

Hi.. Its the ipod Touch copy with the 2.8" screen.

Click the image to open in full size.

Ive opened it and checked. Its got a 4GB Samsung NAND flash. Not sure about the controller.. Cant locate it.

Ive tried s1fwx & s1res tools. both said no player was detected.

Click the image to open in full size.\
PCB Shot

Click the image to open in full size.
The QC Pass hints that its the controller, but i cant take the battery off.

Heres the shot of the memory chip:

EDIT:
strangely, when i hit "About" in the system settings it says this:

Ver: 00.00.0000
Date: 2007-11-21
Flash Mem: XXXX/4005MB
Card Mem: 0/0MB

its a rockchip player them tools are nor for this player

you will need the EXACT firmware for your player and beware, many look like that BUT are not the same firmware, to be safe, don't do it 99% chance to break it, its an older version rockchip that the firmware cant be extracted, newer ones can

sorry advise would be t leave well alone, i have lost count of how many of these players i have seen bricked through wrong firmware

well, i dont really care if i brick it, since this only cost me like 26 bucks, and i dont really like it.. its kinda laggy. So i was thinking if i could toy around with it before chucking it out, or giving it to a friend.

EDIT: OKAY! I found a chip thats almost exactly the same on the RockChip website.
The RK2608 basically matches what my player can do.

So is there a firmware extractor for the RK2608?

EDIT2: Found what kind of firmware.
The date matches the date viewable on my player.
the filename is:
11_23_f941_2608a_MLC_Rock2QVGA_FM_70.rfw

If anyone has it can they please post it up? all the links are dead.

NICE!!! THANK YOU KNOB!

The Different VX585LE firmware 00.00.0004 2008.1.11 worked with ConsumerUpdate 3.10.00

Now, its time to play around with the graphics!

amazingly, this firmware fixed the general lag i had on the player! AMAZING

It seems to have trouble reading firmware info tho, because when i pressed "About" it says "waiting..." then it flashes the info breifly for 1 second and it quits.

and it still takes 1 hour to copy 1.03 GB O.O

But onto my final question.. How do u edit the images, icons, backgrounds etc.etc. for this firmware?

You are amazingly lucky to have other firmware actually work and not brick your player.

For the firmware info problem, this happens on Actions players when the partition information is slightly incorrect -- try reformatting the drive to fix it.

ive already bricked it a couple of times coz i pulled it out during the firmware update (the ConsumerUpdate program froze)... no big deal really... so your saying, that the firmware i used isnt the right firmware?

EDIT:
Well, ive created my own customized GUI firmware.
I was amazed at how easy it was and i dont get why ppl were complaining it was so hard.
