Can't use the e-book-function of my mp4-player? Please Help!

Hello!

I recently bought an mp4 player from ebay, because I'm going for a 6weeks convalescent care (is that the right word? you know, when you are ill, because you had your bone broken in a difficult way or have an heavy illness and you go there to heal completely) and wanted to take some e-books with me instead of heavy, "real" books but my palm with which I read ebooks before crashed a few days before.

Now I have an Kingzon 4GB mp4 Player with Touchscreen and a 2 GB SD-micro-card in the card-slot.

He looks like this:

Imageshack - p1010550

I opened the player and know now that he has a rockchip of the rk2608a type.

He really HAS an e-book-function how you can see on the picture and the manual says it supports txt-files. I uploaded some normal txt-files, some real ebooks and some short sample texts. Unfortunately I can open the files, but there is no text shown.

I have also pictures of this.

some ebook files in the ebook folder:

and when I want to open them it just looks like this:

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/158/p1010554z.jpg

Just a blank screen besides the touchscreen buttons.

The file is open though, because I can bookmark the open file. It seems I can also turn the pages, because when I first use the "next page"-button and then try to bookmark, there is shown another percentage. (for example if I bookmark the beginning of file "xy.txt" it's shown as "xy.txt 0%" but if I turn some pages and then bookmark it would be like "xy.txt 10%")
I just can't see any text. :(

I really don't know what to do anymore. I even tried .pdf-, .doc-, and .rtf-Files but these are definitely not accepted as ebooks from the player. With some help from the internet I could get all other functions to work. Well besides the intern speakers which doesn't have sound, although I can hear music by earphones.

What could I do to make the ebook function work? Please help me >_<

P.S.: I'm german, so sorry for any mistakes in my english ^^° I hope you'll unterstand me nevertheless.

I'm having a similar problem with my mp4 player, although its an Actions AK2025. If I figure out anything, I'll let you know, maybe it could help.

Lol don't worry about your english, it's better than mine, and I'm an american. (maybe that's why my english sucks)

scent_of_night,

Try putting the attached .txt file into your player and see if it plays.
I have a player that looks exactly likes yours and the "Demo_manual.txt" file is what comes with my player and it plays fine.

Let me know if this plays fine on your player.

thanks for your help so far.

I found out that actually my mobilephone (sony ericsson w810i) can also read ebooks with a little programm named "MText Reader 2" and it works. It also seems to work with a lot of other mobilephones, too (maybe this could help you too, squeek? I mean, if we don't get our players to work with ebooks.)
I could now say, okay, I can read ebooks, let's end the thing with my mp4-player and just hear mp3s and watch movies on it. But unfortunately you cannot adjust the time until it goes to standby on my phone, so I have to use a bigger font and am typing my fingers down to the bone, because I have to turn the page every two or three seconds... :(
My mp4-player instead has a much bigger screen and adjusting the standy-time works just fine. So I would be really much happier, reading my ebooks on it instead of on my mobile phone.

@ sqeeek: thanks *lol* I'm relieved now

@ admin: I tried the demo-txt-file but unfortunately it does not work just like the rest of the txt-files I used.
But could you tell me how your ebook-folder is named or better: how it was ORIGINALLY named when you bought it? I don't really think that this could be the problem, but, well, who knows?
Because on my player there wasn't a special folder and also no demo-file (maybe the seller deleted them?).

hahaha well, thanks admin. I put the file on my player, and it still didn't work. Then I looked at your post again, and noticed that you used the word play... so i pressed the 'play' button, and suddenly, everything works. XD oops... *feels stupid*

lol well, thanks for your help guys

scent_of_night- if you can't get yours working, i've got about 7 old Palm and Pocket PC handhelds that i'm trying to get rid of, I'd be happy to send you one if you want, as long as you can pay for shipping. ;)

Hi
I have a similar problem, however my mp5 player will read the first few pages of a text file and then no more - I can read them on my laptop but the MP5 player doesn't show them (it shows up to 10 pages). Help - my 8GB touch screen player with rockchip is fantastic with everything else but I LOVE my ebooks! Your sample came through fine but then it doesn't have many pages....

try editing the sample doc and add text to create "pages"...see if that works?
