[HOWTO] Remove DISK ERROR! / Error format etc.. on AK2025

though it's off topic, do we have any firmware upgrades for these players? looking for some mods.

I have searched for mods to the AK2025 chip devices and have been unable to find any. Any mods/firmware changes would be greatly appreciated as the current one kind of sucks.

It wasn't until I read the post of someone who had the same player and the same problem. He said that when he applied the encrypted slider to maximum the disk worked again... but you end up with only 17MiB of working memory.

I tried it and he was right... Then I thought that I could try reducing the amount of space allocated to the encryption partition and increase the size of the real "partition".

IT WORKED!

I kept trying with different amounts... and guess what I found?
The maximum amount you can give to the player is 1.9GIB of working space.

If someone has the same player as me they should try stopping the slider at 6023.. or was it 6003?
Anyways, the closest higher value to 5970

If you have another player with a different amount of memory try different amounts on the slider. You can keep formatting and reallocating space as much as you want until the Disk Error disappears and you have the maximum sized partition. That, my friends, is the real memory of your player.

Now windows will recognize two partitions... the real one and a fake hacked partition which I guess is some virtual attachment of the first. You have to use the real one.

In case you did all this, disk error disapeared but now you throw in music and you get now DISK EMPTY error, then reformat the real partition to FAT32 using the windows program or your OS' favourite application.

As far as I know there is no other way to completely remove the fake parititon or the hacked memory and I have found no other information about it. The best thing you can do, as I described, is to reduce the memory with the slider to real amount.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T DO THIS:

1- If you have not formatted your player yet then you will get many FORMAT ERRORS, you'll be unable to play your videos and unable to view big sized photos. Also you may get some other errors.

2- If you already formatted your player then you'll get the DISK ERROR. If you don't adjust the partition to it's real amount then you won't be able to get rid of the error and you'll end up stuck with a radio-settings player.

You want it or not, you have to discover the real amount of memory of your player.

I just registered to post this. It's the first contact I've ever had with chipods or MPx players and it's been a tough afternoon, scared that my player would never recover from the Disk error.

(BTW, the player works excelent, is there any difference between FAT32 and FAT(16) for a 2GiB player?)

To solve the problem format the mp3 player in fat32 with Active partition manager try to format all, after this format with right clic - Classic Format - of win system. Now you have a 8Gb Mp3 chinese player work perfectly. All because the error is in the boot table of Mp3 Player. Don't think the error is a problem of hack in the firmware (for hacking 2Gb to 8Gb).

Its impossible for that to be true. Open one up sometime and look at the memory chip... or the controller chip. Both have a 2GB maximum and the serial number on the memory chip will prove it.

No I wont believe you... until i have proof. If theres a new controller chip out there and there really is 8gb mp4. tell me where you bought it so i can get one.


you say its 8gb but i have 3 ways to tell you its not-- open it and look at the chip it will prove its not -- put 8gb woth of files on there, delete them from your computer, and copy them back... see how many you get back. ill bet its aound 1.89GB and if you really want to see the proof, google h2testw.ex

I don't know if there really is a difference between FAT32 and FAT16 other than the fact that if its more than2GB you have to use fat32, but i have had problems trying to use FAT32 on the mp4 before. Maybe it was unrelated but i find it best just to be safe.

BTW has anyone else bought some more of these recently? because i have and mp3 disk utility is being really problematic. It sais there is no drive plugged in. Maybe its a new hack? or does anyone know of a fix?
