Thumbs up [HOWTO] Remove DISK ERROR! / Error format etc.. on AK2025

Well I've got a new 8GB MP4 player as gift from my father this morning.

It is the AK 2025 9.54.5 Firmware Ipod NANO ALIKE.

Unfortunately while copying some songs the player disconected and the memory corrupted. So I decided to reformat the player, ¿What could go wrong?

Everything. DISK ERROR!
And there was no way to remove the damn error and at the same time my father (who bought the same) had issues with Format Error.

At that time I didn't know about memory hack so I didn't exactly know what happend. Later when I read about it on the old MPX forums I thought that the memory was real since when formatting it the amount didn't change... Still Disk Error!

Then I decided to follow the MyMPX guide [LINK] to remove memory HACK. STILL NO LUCK!

When I completed the steps of the guide I still had 8GIB on the Disk and DISK ERROR. Could that amount be correct?

It wasn't until I read the post of someone who had the same player and the same problem. He said that when he applied the encrypted slider to maximum the disk worked again... but you end up with only 17MiB of working memory.

I tried it and he was right... Then I thought that I could try reducing the amount of space allocated to the encryption partition and increase the size of the real "partition".

IT WORKED!

I kept trying with different amounts... and guess what I found?
The maximum amount you can give to the player is 1.9GIB of working space.

If someone has the same player as me they should try stopping the slider at 6023.. or was it 6003?
Anyways, the closest higher value to 5970

If you have another player with a different amount of memory try different amounts on the slider. You can keep formatting and reallocating space as much as you want until the Disk Error disappears and you have the maximum sized partition. That, my friends, is the real memory of your player.

Now windows will recognize two partitions... the real one and a fake hacked partition which I guess is some virtual attachment of the first. You have to use the real one.

In case you did all this, disk error disapeared but now you throw in music and you get now DISK EMPTY error, then reformat the real partition to FAT32 using the windows program or your OS' favourite application.

As far as I know there is no other way to completely remove the fake parititon or the hacked memory and I have found no other information about it. The best thing you can do, as I described, is to reduce the memory with the slider to real amount.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T DO THIS:

1- If you have not formatted your player yet then you will get many FORMAT ERRORS, you'll be unable to play your videos and unable to view big sized photos. Also you may get some other errors.

2- If you already formatted your player then you'll get the DISK ERROR. If you don't adjust the partition to it's real amount then you won't be able to get rid of the error and you'll end up stuck with a radio-settings player.

You want it or not, you have to discover the real amount of memory of your player.

I just registered to post this. It's the first contact I've ever had with chipods or MPx players and it's been a tough afternoon, scared that my player would never recover from the Disk error.

Cheers!

(BTW, the player works excelent, is there any difference between FAT32 and FAT(16) for a 2GiB player?)

My dear friend, what can I say!!

I had the exact same issue on the possibly identical player to yours! nano copy 8gb . And followed your instruction and YES, you are spot on it is actually a 2 gb player and it did recover from disk errors and the useable space is 1.93 gb and works just fine.

All I ask why why why! These idiots could sell it legitimately and and believe me I would have still purchased it even if I knew it is 2GB player as it works, plays and fuctions perfect. Hey hoo. Reported to ebay and paypal etc ect. It is now time to resize and fix my wifes LOL

thanks for your post

I'm glad that I could help you.

The reason they are hacked however is so that they can charge more for less.
I've seen vendors selling players with 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. Obviously they all are hacked and have the same amount, but the buyer is charged more for the 4 and 8GB models.

Agreed. Mine is also an "8 Gb" ipod wanna-be that has no more than 1.8 GB. *sigh*
When I get a job (doing a course right now to get qualified for said job) I shall buy a REAL ipod.

I found basically the same solution for mine and posted it with links to download the software that will be needed (might help someone who does not have the software yet):

1. Run H2test to find out how much memory you actually have. (in my case, actual memory was 1.8G) Download H2test

2. Check to see how much fake memory you have. I used the MP3 Player Disk Tool. It said that I have 7924MB on the drive. Download MP3 Player Utilities. (The MP3 Player Disk Tool will be in the Mp3 Player Utilities.)

3. Convert the (actual memory) 1.8GB to MB. Conversion Calculator (This will require a little math). Subtract your actual memory from the memory that is represented (fake memory).
7924 MB - 1843 MB = 6081 MB

4.
In your MP3 player, go to Menu, , Set Up, Online Mode, Multi Drive. You will need your PC to recognize multiple drives because you are about to partition the drive (which will make 2 drives.) You will need to see both drives.

5. In the MP3 Player Disk tool, select the drive you want to partition. (In my case, it was drive F).
a. On Format type, click Low
b. On the "partition and encrypt" slide the scale to the number you previously calculated. In my case, I slid the slider as close to 6081 MB as possible.
**You can go over the calculated number, but you cannot go under the calculated number. (If you make the drive too big, it will not work because you have exceeded the actual capacity of the drive.)

6. Hit the "start" button. You will get a message when the partition is complete.

When the partition is complete, you may have 1 drive that is FAT and 1 drive that is RAW. If your drive is RAW, your MP3 player will not recognize the drive and will render the "DISK ERROR!" message. Check to see if you still get a "DISK ERROR". If so, complete the following steps. (Don't worry, you are almost done.)

Follow these instruction to correct the error:
1. Figure out which is the fake drive and which is the real drive. In my case, E is the real drive and F is the fake drive. (Prior to the partition the player always showed up as the F drive.)

2. Go to your DOS window. (Windows format just would not cut it. You have to use DOS.) Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt (in XP).

3. When you see the C:\ if your real drive is drive E, type this FORMAT E: /FS:FAT32

4. This command should format your actual drive to Fat32. Your player should now recognize your actual drive. Check your cracked Chipod to see if you still get a disk error. This is what it took to get mine back from reading disk error.

5. After all your changes and you have confirmed which drive is the actual drive and which is the imposter, you can change the online mode back to Normal instead of multi-drive. (This way the imposter drive no longer shows up when you plug your mp3 player into your PC.)

Sorry about all the steps. I have been searching on the web for a few days and everyone says that existing software does not fix this particular cracked MP3.

Again, my seller's name was
yuanhuaii and I have posted a link to the description of my MP3/MP4 player that was supposed to be a 8GB player in the 1st post of this thread.

Hope this helps somebody.
