mp4 Touch - not seeing the removable disk when connected to PC

I just recieved by mp4 8GB touch from China. I'm happy with the quality and feel of unit. It simulates an Ipod Nano 4th gen and has the Ipod connector.

However, when I try to connect it to my PC (I have a Vista and an XP machine) I'm not seeing the removable disk.

Does this unit require a driver? If so, where can I find one?

Also, where would I go to get the latest firmware? When I display the firmware version, here is what I get:

MP4 PLAYER
CBD CO., LTD
2009-07-28
9.5.54

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi#
with this being a generic player with no brand name you will not get any updates, these players are made by the bucket load from many different location and while they all may look the same they are not, so no updates im afraid

no, the player should not need any drivers at all. try a different cable if possible, but with this having an ipod connector and not the standard mini USB you may have problems there

try using a back USB port for better connections
what does happen when connected , does windows make any noise at all
have a look in device manager with the the player connected, see if there are any devices in error, if so uninstall them and reboot - also, this could be a problem in the the player may have hacked (false) memory
can u link where you bought it and we can check for fake/bad sellers

Thanks, I too thought it may be a bad cable, and now I'm trying to locate a friend who has one with a good cable to try.

When I connect it, I get no sounds at all. Windows does nothing. No removable disk comes up, and nothing in the device manager. Note that I've tried it on two Windows machine, one XP and one Vista with the same results.

Also note that the unit does charge off this cable.

I bought it on Ebay from this guy:

Here is the auction:

1.8'' 8GB Touch Shakable MP3 MP4 Media Player GR 4th - eBay (item 280415607546 end time Oct-28-09 10:03:43 PDT)

Note that he is trying to work with me and has suggested trying another cable.

Thanks for the help.

well seller seems to check out fine so that might be OK
these connection problems are not uncommon with these devices it could possibly be related to the chipset on your PC, it has been said a couple of times that PC using ALI chipset has USB connection problems but i am not 100% convinced of that

so i am assuming then that the player goes straight to charge screen when connected - definately a cable problem then - see if they can send you anotehr

Correct, it goes straight to the charge screen.

The older G4 clones (AMV) can some times have loose connection with the 30pin ipod usb. First I would agree to test it using a new cable. If that does not work send it back to get a new one. I'm pretty sure that it is the AMV version many sellers are selling them now.
