Default Format error help.

Hi.
My mom bought me a mp4 player for christmas; it's a chinese one and it's a 4gig. It's not a touch screen and looks like a general iPod; it doesn't have the touch to scroll feature, you have to press down on the scroller and it clicks like a button. It uses an iPod-esque charger, with the white USB on one end, and a larger plug in on the other, that goes into the mp4 player.

I have fourty-five songs on it and when I went to add more, it says "format error". I've checked how much space I have on it and I've only used a tiny fraction of my space.

Also, when I tried to add a video to it, no video shows up. It's listed under files when I hook it up to the computer, but it won't show up on the player.

Thank you for looking. I hope this can be solved.

I ran it, and it finished, saying:

Warning: Only 2 of 8154 MByte tested.
The media is likely to be defective.
4 KByte OK (8 sectors)
1.9 MByte DATA LOST (4088 sectors)
Details:1020 KByte overwritten (2040 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
1 MByte corrupted (2048 sectors)
4 KByte aliased memory (8 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x0000000000000000
Expected: 0x0000000000000000
Found: 0x202020202020202e
H2testw version 1.3
Reading speed: 6.08 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

So, since I know now that it's defective, how do I fix it? or is there no way to fix it?

Do you have a digital camera? if you do open the device and take a picture of the chips on the inside, or just a picture of the player itself if you don't think you can get it back together. The method of fixing it depends on th chips used.

I agree, the method is slightly different depending on your chipset.
What you can also do is in your player's Main Menu, go to [Setup] and there should be an item called "Firmware Info" or something similar. If you post the firmware information here, that will help in determining what chipset you have. But looking at it, it seems you may have a hacked 4GB MP4 player unfortunately.

Make sure you formatted your device before you run h2testw because if there's files on it the results will be skewed. I cant tell how much memory it actually has from your results. The most unfortunate case is that you got a 256MB hacked to say 4gb

If it is the same player i have it will be a 2GB. Try this first.

Open mp3 utilities disk tool

select low formatting type

press format.

This will ruin your player for now, but will enable you to test it correctly.

Post your results, unless you can see how much memory there really is.

Frozensoda; you originally asked for a picture, so here it is: http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...DCFC0256-1.jpg
Is the mp3 disk utilities the thing that came on the CD with it, or is it a download file? Because if it's on the CD that came with it I'll need to go do some searching around my house :/ i'm such a scatterbrain.

I go to settings and the first thing there says "You have 7996 MB free".
At the "Filmware Version" It says:

2008/09/05
9.5.54
2008/07/10
ACT2025E_V54

Default OK!

Ok that helps it is most likeley a 2GB. Here is a link to the disk tool:

Download

Follow this guide! your player is an Ak2025 player.

SOLUTION - Fixing "Disk Error" in hacked AK2025 players

In other words,

open mp3 utilities disk tool

Pick low formatting type

go to the partitioning tab

subtract 1941MB below maximum for the slider.

click partition

Go to my computer and find the 2GB partition (should say about 1.89GB)

Right click and format in FAT *not FAT32*

Go into your players settings and change the disk type to normal only.

Will edit this post later to make it better, i have to go to school now.

Yeah just two more things, Go to system or settings on the player and press memory info or something similar, make sure its under 2GB. And then go to online mode or USB mode and select normal only. This will stop the fake memory partition from showing up when you plug USB in.

If you bought it on ebay in the last 90 days you can go one step further by getting a 75% refund. I have gotten 75% refunds on 4 devices and 100% on one.
