Default How do I remove the memory hack from "8gb" 4th gen Nano clone?

Hi.
A few months ago I bought a Nano 4th gen clone off Ebay.
the firmware page reads:
2008/09/05
9.5.54
QS_AK2025
2008/04/23

I'm pretty sure it's memory hacked. I am unable to remove the hack though. I installed mp3 player utilities 3.68. The mp3 player shows up as E: drive. Windows says to scan and fix the drive when I plug it in, but if I select scan and fix, it just hangs. In mp3 player utilities, it says "Not detected removable disk! Please check the disk connecting, or reboot system!". If i hit OK, it says "drive E:, 0.00MB"

What do I do?

Thanks!

Hey, I can give you everything you need follow the links.

[HOWTO] Remove DISK ERROR! / Error format etc.. on AK2025
Tutorial on fixing the memory (note: format in FAT not FAT32 as the guide suggests.)

As another note, To find out what the slider number should be, subtract 1921 from the number your player reports. As an example (Memory free:8654MB your slide the bar to 6733 and format.

Format error help.
Someone else with a similar problem, read you might find something that helps.

If you need anything else or are confused about any part of the process, just ask and I'll be more than willing to help.

Have you ever messed with the firmware or did it just stop working?

I had problems with corrupted mp3s so I formatted the player. i got the disk error. I ran a quick format again and now it works but some mp3s are still corrupted. I never messed with the firmware though, just backed it up with s1fwx after I started getting corrupted files.

does the fact that the laptop has windows 7 mean anything? The PC I sync to has windows XP but the one with mp3 utilities (my laptop) has windows 7

Probably, you know how much Microsoft likes busting our balls on backwards compatibility.

The corrupted mp3s are most likely due to incorrect formatting and the fake memory. Unless when you said you did a quick format you mean you followed the guides. In any case, once the memory is fixed the errors will stop.
