Default New mp3 player, same old problem with filenames

This is the second MP3 player I've tried. When I have long filenames on it the whole thing gets corrupted and acts like there are no audio files on it. I get a directory that looks like this:

--=--034.mp3
233rdsf32.m--

etc

when I originally had something like
Led Zeppelin -- Stairway to Heaven.mp3

What's going on here?
