ok, just run with it..
it's up to the seller now to reply to your claim,
keep the discussion's focus on the hacked memory, being less than advertised
after a while, if the seller is unwilling to issue a refund, you'll be able to let paypal review the claim

Has anyone got a full refund for these hacked players (without having to return it)?
I negotiated a partial refund, and it went through quickly (without making a claim to ebay). And the final price is cheap, compared to what I get. A full refund would be fantastic, but is more risky and takes longer.

Yeah, that's what i was wondering too..
How much did you get refunded?
I was negotiating for a partial refund 15 dollars (originally 37)...but he never replied back...
so i ended up filing a claim...(on accident...lol)
Maybe first start a dispute and ask for a full refund.... but i think if they offer a partial refund, and you deny and go to a claim, paypal gives them the advantage....soo....
Or maybe start a claim and do a partial refund instead of a full refund (cause you have to ship it back, which kinda defeats the purpose)...
and ask for like a 90% or 50% refund.......that way you don't have to ship it back when/or if you win.
but i haven't tried that myself, but now i'm thinking i should've done that.
Paypal sucks and so does ebay. such liars. buyer protection my a**
lol

The lesson is DON'T BUY FROM EBAY AT ALL You can get your player from the same source direct from china and cut out the middle men, get free delivery and it will be cheaper too! this doesn't guarantee you a non-hacked player but at least you will pay less in the first place.
For the same players you get on Ebay try sellers like:-
DealExtreme: Cool Gadgets at the Right Price - Site-Wide Free Shipping (Page 1)
TinyDeal Direct Online Store, MP4/MP3 Player, Mobile Phone, Memory Card, Accessories
Reliable Shop For MP3 Players and MP4 Players, Cell Phones, Digital Cameras & Accessories, iPod Accessories, Gadgets At Lowest Price-Uxcell.com
Or if you want an non-hacked player and better support with forums etc.
try
http://www.houseofdap.com/ and http://www.mp4nation.net/catalog/

Go 4 a FULL refund people, all i did was send an email with test results and told them they had 24 hours to give a full refund or i would take action..!! Now i also have a bogus 16 gb flash drive that is only about 2gb. The seller isn't on paypal anymore so the issue went directly to a claim and now they are trying 2 tell me i have to mail it back. Like i'm gonna pay 13.50 for a tracking number so i can get ripped off again? I don't think so. I also files a claim with Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home, we'll see how they like that 1.....

Dear thajyeeb and others
I have used the chkflsh method very successfully on some slim players but on my version of your player (depicted on home page) and the very similar "3 button" type they still report as 32 gb.
What may be relevant is that they both appear to present not only two drive letters to the o/s but that partitioning utilities regard them as two separate physical drives. The first drive is set as the faked 32gb, the second drive as zero size.
Using mydisktest I can get it to create the xbadsect directory and the o/s matches the remaining report (only 1.9 from 32 available, took ages).
Perhaps this is where I am going wrong, if I run the instructions as above (with only the default "bad blocks" option checked) then it just zips through saying all 32gb are fine. I think the instructions should be ammended to:
2A check "do full scan" and also "test if downgrade" options then press the main "test the drive button". Warning this will be very slow, several hours.
At the end of that test opt to lock out bad blocks. Warning this will be even slower, suggest leave running overnight.
[I went through exactly as per your instructions the first time and then as my version, no difference]
Either way Chkflsh opens up as expected (it also shows the null drive as a seperate pysical device rather than a simple second partition ), running the slider down below 1.9 gb on the hacked drive and proceeding as instructed has no effect.
Any ideas as how to proceed? I have some feeling that it is linked to the aspect of the "zero" drive but I cannot fathom how to eliminate it.
I wish I had been sent a version with as much as 4gb!
Does anybody have any experience of operating these with micro sd cards? Do they operate in a stable manner and as you would hope? Can they use any more than a 4gb card? the printed spec suggests 8gb but I'm sure I have read somewhere that the chipset used does not address more than 4gb.

I think the second drive (0 size) is your SD-card slot

I
double check your memory size with h2testw, it should also report 2GB ok

you should see the hacked 32GB in chkflsh, that's the part to work with anyway
if I remember correctly, I also did things slightly different:
I made the new partition on slot 1, FAT32, slider a bit below the reported size
and didn't mess around with a tiny FAT16 partition

I'm running a 4GB card without issues, you could try 8GB but as said, not all players support that size

new problem
Dear still life
The point about the removable card representing the other drive may well be valid.
The device I had to hand was the three button version, seems to need a mini-sd, which I do not have.
I did manage to borrow a 2gb micro sd and was now going to test that on the single button player but...
(and appreciating that it is off-topic but this thread is active)
On connecting it goes through the initial boot routine as far as presenting the application icons but the touch screen simply does not respond. The clock at the top of the screen is fixed at zero, the battery level indicates zero still after an hour. I have tried the hardware reset but no improvement.
If the main button is pressed then the button surround does light to red for say 6 seconds but does nothing for the touchscreen, none of the other three side buttons seem to effect any change.
The time-out on the screen backlight still seems to operate.
If I pull the usb cable it immedately kills the screen, suggesting no battery power available.
Have any of you suffered this? Is there a way to kick it back into life or is it known to definately be scrap now?
For the time I have wasted on this I suppose I could have bought something with a brand name.
