Can this reader use a USB Wifi Adaptor and ? driver
Hi All, espeically @Trinity and Nicolas72 ...
Very Interesting reading this threat. I have this reader branded as VIVID Model AEET100K with manufacturer name E3 Style Pty Ltd. I bought it a few weeks ago while away studying in Australia. It is the black 2Gb version with V1.0.5. I will prob? update the firmware to Skytex primer as suggested by Trnitiy - but first I need to crack it open to check which Chip is in it as there seems to be big probs for different chipsets to what Trinity has. But I have another question - Can this ebook reader be enabled for Wifi using a USB wifi adaptor into the mini USB? And if so I should imagine it needs a driver for such adaptor (mine is a Netgear WG111v2) - and IF the OS is Linux (not Windows CE or the like) where can I get the driver for my adaptor? Has anyone attempted to make this ebook reader wifi capable? Does it need rooting? And would the architecture run a different OS which might be better? I hope you smart guys and gals out there can enlighten me with this idea? Phantom Girl |

Hi T. Pls see post of yesterday re Wifi Adaptor and OS for this reader. Can you (or any of your resources in Europe) help? Would be great to be able to access the internet with wifi and browse on it. BTW my firmware has Adobe Mobile reader on it but no ability to play video formats. Is there some way to mix amd match the functions in the various firmware versions? I note that 8 or 9 months ago, Nicolas72 was doing some programing. Did he ever get any results? PG |

My model has the RK2729 chip (I think but not opened it up yet), and runs Linux OS, with 2Gb memory. I has Adobe Mobile reader loaded from new and it works fine for the pdfs I have loaded. I could try to get you a set of the firmware off my unit if I can follow the directions of earlier posters in this topic, but may not be for a few days yet. I think the manufacturer could be Chuwi http://www.chuwi.com/index.asp who are now making an a much improved Android OS on RK2918 chip with cam and wifi, but an earlier model which I think was Model E700 (now replaced by higher speced P700) has the same casing as ours but no current reference now to ours (made late 2010/early 2011) on that site. There is some info on www.slatedroid.com, and on How to Clone Rockchip Firmware | eHow.com , and on http:\\gadgetsland.net where some of the earlier posters to this thread did purchase their version of our unit. However another site http://www.techcular.com/mebook-touc...eatures-price/ lists the WHITE version as "Mebook Touch is the latest color touchscreen eBook Reader which has released from Chinavasion"; amd its hardware spec is identical to my black one. I am happy with my unit (with no cam) except that I would like to make it wifi enabled. My recent posting were to find out - 1) If the RK2729 units can be rooted to host Android OS; or 2) leaving thje original Linux OS on, can Linus drive a USB wifi adaptor (with a suitable linux driver) to make it communicate through wifi to my home wifi router? I am Linux-challenged http://mympx.org/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif Is there someone out there who can advise me on this Linux/Wifi/RK2729 issue? PG |

No reply yet? Tut tut http://mympx.org/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif For those still interested in this ebook and its chipset, I have posted a technical query with Rock-chip (Japan) and hope for a reply. The query was as follows - Regarding the RK2729 chip in the ebook reader I have purchased (Brand Vivid - model AEET100K - suspected OEM from Chuwi or Mebook) - |

Also hanged. Also pressed Reset and the Device died !!!! :( :( :( Were you able to bring it back to live ? |
"I can not get any stations here for whatever reason tho"
You have to put the earphones on whilst scanning for the radio stations, so my seller of the ereader told me, because your body then serves as antenna. Right he was: that s how you get radio stations..... also pick the right country before you start a scan. No good trying on "China" when you are in "Europe"...... |

the rest of your info is correct :) |
Hey guys...
I have also had this chinese ebook reader for almost a month now.In general I am satisfied with it,but I was wondering if you all face the same problem I do. It seems to have a difficulty in recognizing many styles of formatting. For example words written in italics appear in bold and after that the sentence continues in the next line without this being necessary. Do you also have this problem and do you think that installing another firmware created by any of the companies selling it under their brand name could solve this problem? Any opinion or idea on the matter is more than welcome. |
