Hi there, I received my ebook reader I purchased on e-bay today, and wanted to fix the problem with Adobe DRM, in my searches I came across this thread. I went to the skytex website and downloaded the primer application from there with no luck. The driver wouldn't install. So I downloaded the Ebook software tools Trinity kindly uploaded and followed the instructions enclosed however when I click switch the reader goes black and needs a reset before it starts again.
I've tried installing the drivers in windows 7 device manager by selecting add legacy hardware and choosing the 32-bit windows 7 driver however the dialog box that normally shows the driver name so you can click next is empty and the next button is greyed out. updating the driver from the unknown device says "Windows was unable to install your Unknown Device" I'm at a loss as to how I can upgrade this, any advice thoroughly appreciated! |
Wrong Chipset
I found the answer to my problem. I misunderstood my chip and found out that the chip inside is actually an RK2738. I bricked the machine by altering the USB ID strings in the driver but using the the instructions elsewhere on this site I managed to unblock it.
Now trying to find an update to the firmware on that Chip. |

Can you do us a favour and outline what you did to unbrick your player? That would be quite help to have it documented to help others in the future. |
Unbrick RK2738
No problems I found the way to unbrick my RK2738 unit on the following thread on the firmware forum.

Just found a cure for my ereader. Seems the product as been rebranded under several different names. But when i bought it, there was no brand name and just called a Ebook with no site for updates.
So i tried different firmware software from different companies. I had nothing to lose as i'd killed my ereader. Its a habbit of mine to break things Firstly i tried the Migear firmware upgrades and it worked a treat, but video player and something else was missing from the menu. I wanted my video player back!
